If this was done by officials of Notre Dame or a bible college, it would be the lead story of every news agency in the country.
Ratchet it the hell back, will ya? I am talking about criminal charges, not "greenmail." If the government brings a case of securities fraud to you, and you "settle" with a US attorney, do you really think I'm going to believe there was nothing to their case? By the way, if you were a potential investor in someone's business, and you found out he'd settled with a US attorney to avoid jail, but now professes that he was innocent, but it was "just easier" than defending himself...would you still write the check? Or due some deeper due diligence? Or just run?
Right you are. We must share the collective wealth... as long as we're first in line.
A couple of Harvard and Stamford educated elitists were all set to go to Russia and teach them the values of the west and capitalism about the same time this scam went into operation. They went to DC for the interview and were nixed when they admitted they couldn't speak Russian. For a pair of high flyers, it seems elementary that they would have taken a speed Russian course first. But they were so special, nothing ever denied them, that they couldn't believe they'd be turned down.
What no freaking Jail time???
You're argument sounds right...but I still wonder. Let me think about it.
Did I miss the pic of these Harvard crooks' perp walk to the police car? I certainly hope there isn't a double standard being used here....
They were liberals who thought businessmen were crooks and that is how they conducted themselves and how they taught the "reform minded" oligarchs. The oligarchs grabbed all the good stuff at give away prices and proceded to make themselves rich while not paying their fair share of taxes, just as they had learned from the Harvard liberals.
Larry, don't think about it--just tell me I'm completely right.
Just kidding. Goodnight.
What bothers me is that criminal prosecutors ARE occasionally wrong and, in high-profile cases, sometimes politically motivated.
