The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Was Bomber's "New York" Shirt A Message?
Full Story

It's hardly a unique fashion statement for a mass transit rider: a Yankees-style cap, and a "New York" sweat shirt.

But the New York Police Department is teaming with British authorities to determine whether those items were worn by suspects in the London terror cases to send a "purposeful message" to the city, according to an NYPD officials.

David Cohen, the NYPD's deputy commissioner of intelligence, raised the concern earlier this week at a security briefing for business leaders at police headquarters in Lower Manhattan.

Laughing, I suspect that all are not lurking, some can't resist getting in the act.....LOL

It is good that they lurk here, as if we sent the middle of a search to them, they would not understand it, this way they know how we got there......

LOL

There has been a number of male jihadis dressed in burqas to move around. Some were caught; some were not.

"Is al Qaeda of Iraq wearing out its welcome?"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The strain has been showing in recent weeks in Ramadi, the capital of al Anbar province, along the Euphrates River west of Baghdad. Seeking to incite a violent confrontation, Zarqawi's terrorists had ordered members of the city's Shia minority to get out of town. On August 13, they tried to eject them by force, and found the way barred by armed Sunni militia. The ensuing gun battle lasted for an hour before Zarqawi's fighters retreated. On August 18 a group of mostly Sunni political, tribal, and religious leaders (including the governor of al Anbar), hosted by the influential Association of Muslim Scholars, were meeting in a mosque discussing the new constitution when Zarqawi's men opened fire on them. The next day Abu Muhammad Hajeri, a Saudi leader in Zarqawi's group, was found dead with three other members of the group, killed by local tribesmen in retaliation.

Infighting like this is not unprecedented — last March seven foreign fighters were killed in Ramadi, allegedly as reprisal for the assassination of a prominent member of the Dulaimi tribe and former officer in Saddam's fedayeen militia who was working with Coalition forces in Fallujah. The Dulaimi are one of the largest tribes in Iraq, and had enjoyed a measure of autonomy under Saddam's regime. They boycotted the January 2005 elections, but have since moved towards sanctioning limited participation in the political process. The Dulaimi led the defense of the Shia families in Ramadi; such a prominent Sunni group becoming engaged in the political system cannot be good news for Zarqawi."

Hi Cindy, I'm sure she has. Also with her site there is an exceptional amount of traffic and we can count on law enforcement officials being one of them.

Can that sort of stuff really be in "the right hands" though? Where do we differentiate what is substantiated and someone just talking crap? So tough to tell. Good morning btw I am trying to catch up/keep up as usual.

Take it easy!

OPINION-Commentary:

Civilians don't have to be concerned as to whether any threat is real or pure psycho babble.

ALL THREATS should be treated as threats and reported.
Let the authorities decide what is real and what is not.

LOL, I had to add Cindy's name, because, I am going to talk about her.

On this thread, Cindy always has the facts at hand, she is magic.

All the TMer's work at pulling together.

I for one, forget names, but others know who I am talking about, they have supplied "Adnan Shukrijumah" to me so many
times, that I wrote him down on my Ping List of names, so I
could find it. (If you don't know him, do a google on him).

Here is you find a fact or thought, the others often can add to it or will google for the rest of it.

Threat Matrix is so large, that at times, someone supplies the needed information, that has never posted before.

You would be amazed at how many lurkers there are here and not all are friendly.

You will see something you want to research, and go for it.

We all go after it a different way, I google and find things, but I always check Cindy's and all the others google searches, as they do it in various ways, different from the ones I do........that gives us all the links we can find.

You will catch on...

So true. I try to read through some of those translations and try to discern the credibility but it's the general tone of them i don't like these days.

Goodnight then, I'm off to bed also. My eyes are SO tired. Sleep well Cindy!

Bush: U.S. Seeks 'Total Victory' Over Terrorists

By Gerry J. Gilmore
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Aug. 22, 2005 – U.S. servicemembers are fighting and sacrificing in Iraq because that country "is a central front in the war on terror," President Bush told Veterans of Foreign War members gathered in Salt Lake City today.

After addressing the Veterans of Foreign Wars national convention in Salt Lake City, President Bush chats with troops from the Utah National Guard on Aug. 22. Photo by Paul Morse
Terrorists want to "establish Taliban-like regimes" in Iraq and other troubled areas of the Middle East, Bush explained to VFW members at their annual convention, in order to "turn that region into a launching pad for more attacks" against America and its allies.

Yet, "in all their objectives" the terrorists "will fail," the president vowed.

The overriding lesson provided by the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on the United States is "we must confront threats before they fully materialize," Bush asserted, noting that "a policy of retreat and isolation" cannot protect Americans from terrorists' violence.

Therefore, "the only way to defend our citizens where we live," Bush maintained, "is to go after the terrorists where they live."

Bush saluted today's generation of U.S. servicemembers, who, in defending America and confronting terrorism across the globe, are fighting "the first war of the 21st century."

And the only acceptable outcome for the war is "total victory" over the terrorists, Bush said.

Terrorists want to transform Iraq "into what Afghanistan was under the Taliban," he noted.

And terrorists want to stop the spread of democracy in Iraq, "because they know a free Iraq will deal a decisive blow to their strategy to achieve absolute power," Bush said.

Iraqis had experienced three decades of dictatorship under Saddam Hussein, the president pointed out, noting, "They will not allow a new set of would-be tyrants to take control of their future."

Bush said more than 8 million Iraqis voted in recent democratic elections. And despite ongoing insurgent violence, the Iraqis "are building a nation that secures freedom for its citizens and contributes to peace and stability in that region," the president said.

The finished draft of a democratic national constitution will represent "a landmark event in the history of Iraq and the history of the Middle East," he said.

Crafting a constitution is an arduous process that involves "debate and compromise," he noted, pointing out that the U.S. constitution wasn't easily written and adopted.

As Iraqis continue to take on more responsibility for managing the day-to-day affairs of their nation, the U.S. and its allies will "help them to take responsibility for their own security," Bush said. American and Iraqi troops are serving side by side and "working to defeat the terrorists together."

As Iraqis gain more experience in fighting the insurgency, then American troops will stand down, Bush noted. Then, "our troops will come home with the honor they have earned," he said.

The 1.8-million-member VFW was founded in 1899 and works on behalf of all military veterans and their families.
