Florida State to Challenge Ban on Mascots (NCAA ban)

Florida State President T.K. Wetherell threatened to take legal action after the ruling.

"That the NCAA would now label our close bond with the Seminole people as culturally 'hostile and abusive' is both outrageous and insulting," Wetherell said in a written statement.

"I intend to pursue all legal avenues to ensure that this unacceptable decision is overturned, and that this university will forever be associated with the 'unconquered' spirit of the Seminole Tribe of Florida."

I liked a post on another thread "The PC dam is starting to crack". Now it just needs to break.

Is "mascot" the correct word here? I don't think a "team name" is equivalent to a "mascot".

In any event, I wish to make my own contribution to this insanity. The Kansas City Chiefs, should they be inclined to get away from a politically incorrect team name, should rename the team "The Kansas City Faggots" in honor and recogition of a great comedy film.

My understanding from another flag was that it applied to symbols etc. At least they were saying they would have to "cover them up". I don't think that meant a "mascot".

I always thought that the mascots schools used were good things.

For example, I don't think you would have too many schools called the Nerds, the Geeks, the Terrorists.

I went to Texas A&M and we are the Aggies. So is it bad to use Aggies. Is it deragotory to call an agriculatural person an aggie.

I think the American Indians should be proud to have so many schools using them as mascots. It means the schools think they were brave and strong.

Every school that has such a mascot should pull out of the NCAA!
