THAT'S the Gods honest truth.
You could say the same thing about a pet lion raised from a cub.
Another "Oh that Rottweiler was so nice, I don't know what made him snap" story..
Save it. They are vicious animals and don't deserve to be domesticated. There's a reason why we don't domestic Mountain Lions and Grizzly Bears. Rottweilers are in the same category.
so why make excuses for a dog?......
an animal is an animal, whether it be a human animal or just a plain old animal.....
Dogs are wolves inbred by men to make them pets.
But wolf instinct still lurks. There is the pecking order from alpha male and alpha female that keeps the rest of the pack in line.
The alpha male and female were not there.
It is NORMAL for a wolf/dog to attack a young rival in the order. Babies and young children are especially at risk.
Don't let your enthusiasm for the species blind you to the undercurrents of what makes them tick.
I've known some that were like big babies, but I've also run across some that scared the bejeebers out of me. After my wife and I were cornered by two for about 15 minutes, I told the owner that from now on I was carrying my gun when in the are and she would do well to keep them confined to her property. Of course, she told me about what big babies they were. Many animals get that way with the owners, or with the owners around and are totally different when left to their own devices or when around strangers. At times, even the owners of these "big babies" get nasty surprises. Some breeds were bred for aggressiveness and should never be allowed loose in the public arena.
(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
There are some dogs that are predisposed towards aggression. Pitbulls CAN'T safely be around other animals or small children, but are sweet as sugar with people most of the time. I've NEVER encountered a rotty that was anything less than affectionate as a boxer.
It's what people do to these animals in terms of abuse and neglect that make them a danger.
Instead of calling for entire breeds to be wiped out maybe we ought to screen DOG OWNERS for intelligence and common sense.
People make other dog breeds mean also but they become shy, not aggressive. Pit Bulls and Rottweillers should be eradicated.
Do people make these dogs lick their own butts and pee on trees too?
I had a 120 lb male Rott that was a big lap dog. Sweetest thing. His sister however - from the same litter - had just the opposite disposition. She finally had to be put down due to her aggressiveness.
So far, I've known three Rotties in my life. One was kept as something like a watch dog by a man who owned a house by which I would hike seveal times a week. That dog just did its job--it would come out and look at me with a look that said it really didn't want me on it's owner's property, perfectly OK. Another was a female named Angel who was an angel--she came over to my house a couple of tims and ried to adopt me. The third, a huge ball of wiggling love, belonged to a cousin.
After all these experiences with Rotties, all I can say is people sometimes have trouble with them because the dogs have been badly treated or trained, not becauase there's anything inherently wrong with the breed.
I agree. In some rare instances you get an anomaly where a dog goes bad despite being treated well, but in 99.9% of the cases, the dogs are nothing more than a reflection of how they were raised.
How about those dogs that are bred to kill? It is my understanding such animals are born "mean".
I'm with you. We're not getting the whole story.
"My friend's Rotty is a big baby. This dog reacted for a reason. My guess it was beaten with the hose and freaked when he saw it. People make these dogs mean."
Two "wouldn't hurt a fly" rottweilers nearly tore my at the time springer spaniel to shreds. The large stick I carry and the dogs owner saved my dogs life.
Rotts and Pits do not belong amongst the public.
I had a friend that said the same about his young Rott ... until it attacked him about six months later.
Same with my ex father-in-law and his chow.
These dogs aren't too smart and when they get confused they will lash out at the nearest target, whomever that might be.
You ignore nature. All dogs have dominant traits. Rots and Pitts are born with an aggressive trait. A border collie heards sheep, a lab loves water. Rots and Pittbulls should be banned in all neighborhoods.
