2 NY Officials Back Terror Check Profiling

NEW YORK -- Middle Easterners should be targeted for searches on city subways, two elected officials said, contending that police have been wasting time with random checks in efforts to prevent terrorism in the transit system.
The city began examining passengers' bags on subways and buses after the second bomb attack in London two weeks ago. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg have said several times that officers will not engage in racial profiling.
But over the weekend, state Assemblyman Dov Hikind said police should be focusing on those who fit the "terrorist profile."
"They all look a certain way," said Hikind, a Democrat from Brooklyn. "It's all very nice to be politically correct here, but we're talking about terrorism."
On Tuesday, Republican City Councilman James Oddo said the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attack by Middle Eastern men in hijacked airplanes prompted him to publicly declare his support for Hikind's statements.
"The reality is that there is a group of people who want to kill us and destroy our way of life," he said. "Young Arab fundamentalists are the individuals undertaking these acts of terror, and we should keep those facts prominently in our minds and eyes as we attempt to secure our populace."

WOW...a hint of the aroma of sanity is in the air.
Sadly, I think we're going to have to lose an entire city to a suitcase nuke before people wake up. I don't think our liberals understand that metropolitan areas (Blue cities) are the primary target (not Red states).
That would be Muslims specifically, and middle-eastern Muslims generally.
The problem is, not all of them look like that. Chechnyans look like Europeans. One of the recent London bombers was Jamaican. Jose Padilla is Hispanic, and the people arrested in that cell in Washington state were black Americans.
But most of them are middle-eastern Muslims, mostly males, under age 40. So that's a good place to start.
Its a start, but what about crosses on city seals, affirmative action, immigration? Whe PC actually goes it will be very good for this country, but it should not only target terrorism.

That may be, but hopefully the foundation is being built so that the casualities wont be as bad as they might otherwise be. Unfortunately, that's the measure of "progress" we're dealing with here. The people resisting this will have blood on their hands, and there wont be any denying it when the next catastrophe happens.
The liberals blame the conservatives for all attacks because or our greed for oil and the fact that we attacked the Muslems first in Iraq with our illegal war. (I know thats rediculous but that is what they think) So how are they going to wake up when a city is destroyed? They will still be delusional and blame the wrong party.
Let's assume we had a terrorist gang of Black Panthers, or. if you prefer, white separatists, who were going around setting off bombs..tey'd ahd many successful previous attacks..in every case thesuicide bnober had been black, ( or white) The cops would be forced to search both races..
Profiling or applying filters to the vast "noise" in order to increase the opportunity to find what you are looking for, is applied in all forms of research. Why not for finding terrorists? I agree that there are a small percentage of terrorists who don't fit the skin color filter, but the majority do. However, it is just one tool or filter of many. If we completing excluded everyone who wasn't a young Arab male, then we would be foolish. However, not spending most of our effort on young Arab males is also foolish.

It occurred to the powers that be that victims/relatives of another bombing would sue the for compensation if sensible preventive measures weren't taken.

Perhaps the liberals (Leftists) will understand the need for making PC go the way of the Dodo after one of those suitcase jobs wipes out so many of their voters that it takes them out of the Blue State column.
