CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Enquirer endorsed Republican Jean Schmidt Sunday to fill former Rep. Rob Portman's seat in the 2nd Congressional District, saying she understands the district's needs and is better able to help meet them than her opponent.
Schmidt will face Democrat Paul Hackett Tuesday in a special election to replace Portman, who left to become U.S. trade representative.
Schmidt, a lifelong resident of Clermont County and a former state representative, knows how to make deals and has offered specific examples of projects and programs that would help the seven-county southern Ohio district, the newspaper said.
The newspaper praised Hackett for revitalizing two-party competition in the conservative district, but said his campaign focused too narrowly on military issues.
Hackett, who completed a seven-month tour of duty with the Marines this year, would be the first Iraq veteran in Congress if elected.
I wish I lived in Ohio...so I could vote for Schmidt..
I saw her on Fox the other night, and I was mighty impressed with her.
I do live in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District and I will be voting for Schmidt on Tuesday . . . In the meantime, I'm/we're taking nothing forgranted -- hubby and I had taken off the next two days to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary; however, we plan to spend at least half of our time volunteering for the campaign!
The Enquirers endorsements are akin to the nails that grow on a corpse, Everything the paper publishes, is from the LA trines, NY times, Wash post. All its reporters, are Dawn of the Dead leftwing zombies. What remains of this paper will actively campaign agaist its endorsement.
Good call by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
JEAN SCHMIDT FOR CONGRESS!
So yeah, the paper only endorses Republicans so it can pretend it still shares the values of its conservative customers, but under the covers they are almost all dem shills. Only one at that paper that I can say is consistently conservative.
Frankly they both talk out of the side of their mouths i dont trust either one of them !
I agree. Neither Schmidt nor Hackett deserves to be in Congress, and I won't do a thing to help either of them get there.
On Friday I got a mailer from the National Republican Congressional Committee informing me that I should vote against Paul Hackett because he's a tax-hiker. The NRCC must also want me to vote against Schmidt, since she's voted to raise several taxes and 151 fees herself. I happen to agree with that point of view.
My hope is that whoever wins on Tuesday gets defeated in 2006. We deserve better than these two big government, tax-hiking, dishonest politicians.
Any predictions, DrDeb?
Clermont County is key . . . If we can get a RESPECTABLE turnout here (my county), Schmidt will win . . . If not . . .!
I REALLY despise the way in which the Hackett campaign is using the Iraq War! . . . It's important to note that the MAUPIN FAMILY supports Schmidt!
Oh i'm gonna vote but i'll be knashing my teeth while i'm doing it i can tell ya that !
And it sure as hell won't be for the Dem ....
