July 30, 2005 -- It's the kind of outrageous story that would raise the hackles of talk-show host Al Franken: A government-funded agency serving the needy lends nearly $500,000 to a shaky political radio network and is never repaid. Except it involves Franken's own Air America.

The network issued a statement yesterday admitting its connection to The Bronx's Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Clubs, which lost nearly $10 million in city contracts last month after investigators uncovered "significant inappropriate transaction and falsified documents."

One irregularity, first reported by Michael Horowitz in The City News, a Bronx-based publication, was the $480,000 transfer to Air America.

The NY Attorney General is a political hack who is running for Governor, and depends on the MoveOn wing of the Democrat Party for political support. So remove any thought that Elliot Spitzer will do the right thing here from your mind. It would be more likely to see the Sun rise in the West.

This is true of both parties. They only "investigate" when it's politically beneficial. In this regard America is little better than some 3rd world banana republic.

If Gloria Wise didn't have legal authority to provide the $480,000 "loan" to Air America, the money was embezzled by the people who transferred it to Air America, a felony. Returning the money amounts to compounding a felony, not much different than an embezzler from a bank declaring the money she got to be a "loan" and agreeing to return it after she got caught. These people need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Actually, this scandal could actually end up hurting Attorney General Spitzer's campaign if the blogosphere finds out that Spitzer let slide this transfer of money from that charity organization to Air America--he will be labelled a hypocrite and a Democratic party hack and it won't take long for a blogswarm to take him down....
