Weird stuff. Not sure if I support this.
You can't charge people for what they were thinking at the time of the crime. A crime is a crime.

Indeed. Hate crimes are an idiot idea thought up by the idiot left. It's an avenue to express their inner supressed anger and rage.
This is simple, and this is how our legal system works. This stands accused of killing someone in cold blood, premeditated. Charge him with murder one. If convicted, life in prison, no parole.
But of course, actually enforcing tough sentences for heinous crimes is politically incorrect these days, especially when it's an african-american.

I agree completely. I have never liked hate crime laws. People shouldn't be punished for their thoughts, and besides, would it be a lesser crime if the perp didn't hate white people but just thought killing people was really neat?
The only good argument I've heard for prosecuting this as a hate crime is that as long as the laws exist, they should be applied across the board. This is the fair thing, and also makes more people aware of how stupid hate crime laws are.
The fact that the minimum sentence goes from 15 to 20 years is NOT a good reason. If you can't get at least 20 years for an admitted murderer with this guys priors, you shouldn't be a prosecutor (or a Senate candidate, for that matter.)

The whole idea of a "hate crime" absolutely slays me. Does that mean that if I, a white female with a hispanic last name, bludgeon you, a white male, to death it's a 'love crime'? Hmmm? Murder in and of itself is a hate crime.

Weird stuff. Not sure if I support this.I only support it so far that the law, if applied impartially, becomes politically meaningless.
