BLAIR SPENDS $3,000 ON MAKE-UP ***BARF ALERT***
Drudge Report ^ | 7/23/05 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 07/23/2005 5:59:13 PM PDT by Asphalt

British Prime Minister Tony Blair has spent more than $3,000 of taxpayers' money on make-up and make-up artists over the past six years, it has emerged.

The figures were slipped out in a Parliamentary written answer on Thursday - the final day before MPs and peers broke for the summer as London was gripped by the latest attempted terror attacks.

It revealed that between 1999-2000 and 2004-05, Downing Street paid out £1,050.22 for cosmetics for the Prime Minister's media appearances. No figures were available before that date.

And in the past two years, No 10 shelled out a further £791.20 on make-up artists.

In the run-up to the May general election, many pundits noted that Blair had acquired a suspiciously orange glow.

The prime minister insisted he had merely picked up a tan while sitting in his garden during the less-than-tropical month of April.

What better way is there to spend tax dollars?

This comes out to what, about $500 a year? Frankly, I don't think that's all that much, if you count as "cosmetics" things like hair touch-up color, skin conditioners, etc.. The things a public figure might want to use to keep his appearance shipshape.

I personally think it's kind of vain, but a few bucks a month for vanity products is excusable. Didn't Bill Clinton spend $200 for a haircut once?

Yeah, but did Blair get a $300 haircut on his plane in the middle of Heathrow Airport?

That's what happens when you try and get your makeup on the cheap.

I fail to see the scandal here. Anyone who appears on camera regularly has to wear makeup or else the lighting will make them look sweaty and splotchy. People in positions of power and influence need to look dignified on TV, not look as though they had a few too many cocktails the night before. Makeup costs money and cosmeticians don't work for free.

The money that Bill Clinton spent to cover up his herpes sores on TV was well spent.

Let's compare that with the flight our legislatures took to go to Florida to see a "no launch" space shuttle. I believe that was about $63,000 in one day.

Good grief, Drudge. SO DANG WHAT? Makeup has LONG been a normal part of TV appearances.

$3000 in 6 years? That comes out to just $1.37 every day, that's practically nothing. What could that buy, 5 top ramens a day for the homeless? Yeesh.

Not only did BJ spend hundreds on haircuts, he also had jets fly the hair stylest in. But the biggest thing the Bent One did was allow millions to be spent investigating the affair with Monica just to prove what the world already knew.

And to think I just spent too much of my valuable time reading this non-story disguised as a story.

That's pretty economical, imo.

Maybe I'm just used to thousand dollar haircuts at the airport here but six years and only $3000 spent on makeup, which is necessary when you appear on camera, seems fiscally responsible.
