This may have been the best draft choice on the board. He probably made enough money in private practice to be financially secure and yet has ample public service on his resume.

Good choice President Bush.

LOL!

Sorry about that.

The "Down" that is good is more modern than that, is newer.

Gen Y.

I was using "down" in the older sense and showing my age in the process!

Lemme try to undo this.

He's very AGAINST Roe vs Wade.

He's Pro-Life.

Based on the comments so far, is it safe to say that the lynching of Karl Rove has moved to the back burner?

As Deputy Solicitor General, Roberts argued in a brief before the Supreme Court that "we continue to believe that Roe was wrongly decided and should be overruled. The Court’s conclusion in Roe that there is a fundamental right to an abortion...finds no support in the text, structure, or history of the Constitution."**

Thank you, Mr. President.

Into the breach!

At times like this it's a sublime pleasure to read the comments at DU.

I think that it is highly likely that this pick is designed to take as much heat as possible away from the Plame scandal, and the trail where her outing might lead.

This cannot fly. I am so freaking angry. That sorry MFer * is giving the finger to all of us. Oooh I hate him.

Honestly canada is looking better all the time.

This is so scary!!! God I hope Reid, Boxer and the rest stand up for us!

those who support choice, environmental protections, and freedom from theocracy are screwed...

a.k.a. jackbooted goose-stepping blackshirt thug

He worked on the stealing of Bush's first election in FL in 2000, so this must have been in the works since then. Plus, if Bush nominated him that's enough for me to know he will help secure the Bush dictatorship.

I'd think they'd be jazzed over W picking Cokie Roberts' husband.

From the Socialist Worker website. They don't like him --

The right wingers want someone like 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Michael Luttig--who in 1998 granted a stay that allowed a Virginia ban on late-term abortion to go into effect. Or D.C. Circuit Court Judge John Roberts--who, as deputy solicitor general for the Bush Sr. administration, helped craft a policy that barred doctors and clinics receiving federal funds from discussing the possibility of abortion with their patients.

I am LOVING this DU snip:

Here we f***ing go This is no compromise at all. This nomination is as "in your face" as it is possible to get. Time to strap on the gloves folks.

Was anyone in the Executive involved in any kind of a recent compromise??? Bring it on, DUmmies! BRING IT ON!!!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Finally, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, another group that has played a substantial role in opposing Bush nominees, has purchased stopestrada.com, for Miguel Estrada, President Bush's filibustered nominee to a place on D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, and stoproberts.com, for Judge John Roberts.

Levin LOVES the choice.

Mark Levin is a bellwether for me. If he thinks the choice is good, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
