US senators introduce bill to stem illegal immigration

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Lawmakers in the US Senate introduced legislation designed to stem a flood of illegal immigration across America's southern borders.

"This bill strengthens our border enforcement and comprehensively reforms our immigration system, said Republican Senator John Cornyn, one of the authors of the bill, The Comprehensive Enforcement and Immigration Reform Act of 2005.

"We need both stronger enforcement and reasonable reform of our immigration laws," he said.

"In the past, we have not devoted the funds, the resources, or the manpower to enforce our immigration laws or protect our borders," said Cornyn, of the southwestern state of Texas, which shares a long border with Mexico.

The bill's co-sponsor, Republican Jon Kyl of Arizona, said the legislation's goal is "returning the rule of law to the border."

"The single most important aspect of this bill is that it does not reward those who have broken the law, and does not constitute amnesty," said the Republican from Arizona, another southwestern US state bordering Mexico.

"As a nation, we have made both of those mistakes and learned from them. They are the reason we now have an undocumented population as high as 15 million," Kyl said.

Among numerous provisions, the bill would provide funding for 10,000 border patrol agents and 1,250 new customs officers.

It also would devote five billion dollars over five years for high-tech cameras and sensors and infrastructural improvementss at border stations and checkpoints to help stop illegal border crossing

The bill also strengthens US-VISIT entry-exit system to identify aliens who enter the United States illegally and better track those who fail to depart.

The legislation also increases penalties for alien smuggling, document fraud, drug trafficking and gang violence.

The bill also establishes a temporary worker program, creating a new visa category that allows aliens to enter the United States to work for up to two years when there are no available US workers.

110,000 would be more like it.

I wonder what input La Raza had on the legislation or influence they will have on its passing as an effective legislative package?

The Senate has refused to provide funding for the agents that the law already mandates.

So what's new with this bill?

Oh yeah:

ANOTHER FIRCKING INCREASE IN IMMIGRATION:

"The bill also establishes a temporary worker program, creating a new visa category that allows aliens to enter the United States to work for up to two years when there are no available US workers."

That's the ONLY thing that this bill will change.

No, thanks.

In other words, no US workers who are willing to work for substandard wages.

If the huge and growing Hispanic bloc is up for grabs, and it seems to be leaning our way, let's let more in!

Please tell me this new bill includes a fine of $10,000 and five years in prison for employers who hire Criminal Aliens.

If it doesn't, it not worth the paper it's printed on.

I do not see:

1) Penalties on employers of illegal aliens;
2) A wall; nor
3) What becomes of the approx. 15 million illegals here?

Throw these guys out of the Senate and get something better!

"Lawmakers in the US Senate introduced legislation designed to stem a flood of illegal immigration across America's southern borders."

Amen to that.

One thing at the time, but hurry before the country slides into third worldism.

"The bill also establishes a temporary worker program, creating a new visa category that allows aliens to enter the United States to work for up to two years when there are no available US workers."

Traitors!

The problem with this kind of guest-worker or "entry and exit" proposal is that it's all entry and no exit.

Once the illegal aliens come to supposedly work, no one will be able to make them go back to their respective third world countries. And what about their children if they're bron on US soil. They should not be given automatic citizenship, in my opinion.

Oh, I wish America's ruling elite would allow such a fine. But not just criminal aliens, all illegal aliens. Moreover, a $10,000 fine is just chicken feed. I'd go for $100,000 per illegal alien head hired by our treasonous employers.

If you think there's no real difference between America and the 3rd world, why not go live there?

For someone who whines about the races of American babies and who claimed the Founders wanted a whites-only nation, you should never call anyone else a traitor.

I'll believe they will do something about the illegal problem when I see the results and not one second sooner.

All this talk about the Rove stuff and illegal immigration is like the elephant in the room to most of the media.

I live in Massachusetts and they are all over the place---I cannot imagine what it's like out west.

"The bill also establishes a temporary worker program, creating a new visa category that allows aliens to enter the United States to work for up to two years when there are no available US workers

Based on the reporting of it, the bill seems ambiguous and open to subjective bureaucrats and judges.

There are many available US workers for the jobs at my place currently filled by Indians, Guatamalens, etc. The available US workers are not working here because they don't want to go to cornland... or don't like the technology that is not on the bleeding edge ... or are content with drawing unemployment comp and take care of the kids while their spouse works.

Also is there any mention of whether the available US workers need to be competent? or just available? Must a US worker always be a citizen? Or can it be an immigrant already here?

Are there any requirements on wages offered the available worker?

Is the law written in such a way as to encourage or discourage OUTSOURCING? That is the big one. Historically, congress has written laws in such a complicated, bureaucratic way that the redtape encourages outsourcing.

Immigration is the enemy of outsourcing. Outsourcing is the enemy of immigration.

Hey, if it'll stem employment at the U.N., then we've gotta consider it.

LOL...your sh@t is weak. Just say what you mean....I make crap loads of money from illegals, I rent houses to illegals and the illegals are propping up social security, the local Wal-Mart and every other business in town. If the illegals are stopped at the border, my business goes under......! Knock off this "it's for the good of the nation" B.S. It's for the good of you and those that profit from uncontrolled immigration. The secret is out of the bag and the nation is aware...nimrod.
