Hillary Author Frozen Out
Washington Post ^ | Howard Kurtz

Posted on 07/11/2005 6:31:05 PM PDT by GulliverSwift

Despite the enormous hype surrounding Edward Klein's scathing and hearsay-filled book about Hillary Rodham Clinton, the author has been ignored by all but two television talk shows.

This collective cold shoulder hasn't stopped "The Truth About Hillary" from hitting No. 2 yesterday on the coveted New York Times list. "It's the biggest example to date of how major media censorship doesn't stop a book anymore from being a bestseller," Klein declares.

Censorship is clearly the wrong word, since networks have no obligation to interview any author. The refusal to book Klein could just as easily be viewed as the drawing of a line by news organizations over a highly personal attack that has drawn fire from several conservative columnists as well as those on the left.

"It's just been a total blackout," says Klein, adding that talk radio and some Web sites, including the Drudge Report, have driven sales of the book. "I definitely think there's something organized going on here."

Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines says Klein "didn't even rate a full 15 minutes of fame on national television" because the book is "full of blatant and vicious fabrications."

"There's been an effort to make sure people know about the inaccuracies," Reines says. "Anyone who has called, we've made the case: 'Why would you even give him any airtime at all?' People have editorially made the decision it doesn't warrant airtime. It's beyond the pale."

Good. He is working for Hillary.

We won't beat her with gossip, and she knows that. Her game is to create gossip for sympathy and to distract people from her policies.

Once again, a claim of "debunking" the facts of a book is taken as fact itself.

Exactly what innaccuracy has been challenged?

Hmm. I wonder if Mr. Kurtz will be singing the same tune the next time some "artist's" government grant to create a urine soaked cross or some such thing is at issue.

Were I a shareholder in a publicly held media company, I would be wondering why the number 2 book has not been reviewed, and it's author has not been interviewed.

The book may be crap, but it is news, AND the attention could sell newspapers at a time sales are down.

No obligation to interview any author that does not "have his mind right" in the MSM's (major Socialist media's) opinion. How many days did Kitty Kelly get on "Guten Morgen, America" for her Bush hit book?

"We don't think you all are intelligent enough to handle this subject matter so we don't want to expose you to it."

It's funny, I don't remember any old media people saying that the claims that bush knew about 9-11 ahead of time were "beyond the pale"

"The book is uninteresting to Fox News," says spokesman Paul Schur. "We've moved on." Klein "has kind of just fallen off everybody's radar screen."

Sure Hannity gave a token interview. But the statement just proves what many here have suspected, and that is Fox News is pretty much MSM scum and not so different from its MSM brothers and sisters, except Mr. Murdoch, an expert in tabloid, knows how to ring the cash register on the sensational such as the Peterson, and Holloway cases better than the ideologue only cable nets such as the Clinton News Network and PMSNBC.

Plus think of all the press Al Frankenberry gets. So, it isn't creditability that drives the press coverage that's for sure.

So much for that "theory".
