CAMARILLO, Calif., July 10 -- Gas prices have hit a record high of $2.33 a gallon, pushed up by the climbing cost of oil and strong demand in the midst of the summer vacation season, an industry analyst said Sunday.

Motorists could have more bad news on the way, with Hurricane Dennis affecting oil production in the Gulf of Mexico, which could send pump prices to even loftier levels.

Their prices are so high because they have much higher fuel taxes than we do.

In Moses Lake, WA on Sunday this:

A Shell station @ $2.49.9

Half a mile from it, Union 76 @ $2.38.9

11 Cents lower. Tis', true...

The term "gallon" is a misnomer when comparing it to some of the other countries.

The word "gallon" can represent a bigger quanity of fluid in their gallon than in the U.S. gallon.

I know, I served in the USAF in England in the 1950's.

Measurements are not the same "world-wide".

Dennis gave them another excuse to bump up the prices. I am getting a little bent about the gas prices. It is seriously hindering my husband from buying me a Suburban....LOL.

"A Shell station @ $2.49.9

With a Shell Master Card a 5% discount for gasoline purchased at Shell,,,, equals 12.5 cents per gallon or a net cost of $2.374 per gallon on your monthly statement.

With a Union 76 - Conoco - Phillips Master Card a 3% discount equals 7.2 cents per gal, or a net cost of $2.317 on your monthly statement.

Still approximately a 6 cents per gallon savings at Union 76.

My old gasoline credits cards are a thing of the past as is paying cash for gasoline!

One thing about gasoline it is very capitalist, it goes up, down according to the markets, and the price can be seen from the street.

Springfield, Missouri area $2.199 Monday morning, before Master Card discounts.

Lets remind the Post about inflicted wounds by liberals towards energy pricing.
Blocked, stopped oil drilling in Alaska for years and some more, inclusive missing out on billions of natural gas that comes along with oil drilling.
Prevent oil drilling on the offshore continental shelf.
Prevent refinery construction to force the U.S. into daily importing 11% of refined fuels from Mexico and Canada.
Allow environ protectors to specify custom gasolines on a regional basis, thereby increasing prices.
Mismanagement of forests to cause burning of 6 million acres in '04 and 7 in '03. We used to do this "abhorrent" procedure of clear cutting, thereby harvesting wood instead of burning, created meadows and at the same time fire barriers.
Prevent drilling for natural gas in federal forests.
Complaints about pricing of gasoline?
In case you voted for Democrats, which are shielding these tax exempt interest groups, you supported high gasoline prices and/or raging import deficits.
We were told that high prices cut driving, guess what? you got it. Just too bad others have to shoulder the loads.
