WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Four mosques were vandalized in northern New Zealand overnight Sunday, leaving windows smashed and walls splashed with graffiti, police said.

They declined to say whether the attacks in Auckland were linked to subway and bus bombings in central London Thursday, which killed at least 49 people and injured 700.

But Prime Minister Helen Clark immediately condemned the attacks, linking them to retaliation for the London terror bombings. A group calling itself The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe has claimed responsibility for the London attacks.

"New Zealanders across all communities are horrified by the terrorist attacks in London, which are the work of evil people," she said in a statement. "But it is wrong to target the Muslim community here in retaliation."

In Bloomington, Ind., meanwhile, the FBI was investigating an apparent arson Saturday as a hate crime, officials said. No one was inside the Islamic Center of Bloomington when the fire occurred at about 2 a.m. and damage was confined to the kitchen area, said Nathan Ainslie, president of the Islamic Center.

A burned Quran was found outside, he said.

The East London Mosque, near the site of one of Thursday's attacks, said it had received hate e-mails and a telephone threat to disrupt Friday prayers. A few police officers stood outside during the prayers, which ended peacefully.

Here's the deal: The number of terrorist recruitment centers, oops I meant sacred moose-limb mosques, permitted in any country should be equal to the total number of churches, temples, and all other places of worship that are allowed in that mother lode of al Queda funding, Saudi Arabia.

Two observations:
(1) I thought Kiwi's were ultra-pacifists. Anti-nuke and the whole bit.
(2) Were these the mosques that sponsored the anti-violence rallies?

An earlier thread at: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1320632/posts?page=1#11 indicated the undue interest the New York Times had paid to the anti-smoking ban in Bloomington, Indiana ~ of all places.

This is the sort of thing that can do nothing but inspire localized Islamofascist activists and terrorists to try to attract attention, or to portray Moslems as some sort of victims.

If the FBI really wants to find out who did this to that mosque, they could do worse than to check out all the folks in Bloomington with some sort of "connection" with the New york Times.

Well, the Bloomington incident did occur in the kitchen the most likely place for a non-arson fire to break out. But the presence of the burned Koran outside makes it look more suspicious as a potential "hate" crime.

I wouldn't put it past Muslims to stage fake attacks on mosques to further split muslim communities in the West from the non-muslim majority. It's one of their stated goals.

Let's see now...Shouldn't retaliate even symbolically (vandalize their innocents for the slaughter of our innocents); shouldn't curtail our liberties and adjust to a police state; shouldn't profile; haven't been able to refuse to serve them at a lunch counter in ages.

What's left? Take it on the chin?
