wow someone in the world GETS it !

African aid = international welfare.

The aid IS the problem the same as the aid IS the problem here in the US.

AIDS is big business, maybe Africa's biggest business

I met a guy who worked for the World Bank and lived in Africa who said the same thing. The thug dictators exaggerate a crisis knowing full well the do-gooders on the planet will throw money at it and never check the results.

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day.

Teach a man to fish, and you won't see him for the rest of the week.

So...you mortgage everything you have for seed, tools and land to grow crops to sell at a profit so you and your family can eat and feed a few others and do it again next year. Then a steamship arrives with free food from America.
What happens to your investment ? Want to try it again ?

Aid reinforces the superstition that "big daddy" government will provide, instead of relying on the work ethic, democracy, self-management of private property, etc.

"When you subsidize poverty and failure, you get more of both."James Dale Davidson

And Daniel Patrick Moynihan's formulation of this same simple truism:

If you subsidize helplessness, you will get more of it. The market responds!

The more things change the more they remain the same.

The same phenomena is found in Canada's extensive 'First Nations' reserve system - unmortgageable land, monthly government checks, free 'social services' - it all results in a sort of de facto genocide.

But the bureaucrats and politicians hands are gentle, smooth and clean.

It's just part of that suite of perversions known as 'Canadian Values'.

I hope Rush picks this up, talks about it on-air, and links to it on his web site.

This is spot on!

Good article from an honest man.

The principle he expresses is universal, and as pointed out in other posts, can be seen here as well as in Africa. There are third-generation welfare queens here who have no life plan other than remain on the dole.

The disincentive to work created by welfare in Africa is indeed devastating that continent.

Why should American taxpayers be forced to fork over part of their hard-earned money to any foreign welfare program, especially when it does more harm than good?

I have already e-mailed my representative and one of my senators to oppose Mr. Bush's proposed give-away to Africa. But I'm not sanguine about the prospect of stopping this boondoggle. Not only does the administration spend like crazy at home, it looks for opportunities to increase our deficit with foreign welfare programs!
