Muslim leaders join condemnation

Muslim leaders have condemned the attacks on London and said they fear their communities could now fall prey to vigilante attacks.

Muslim Association of Britain president Ahmed Sheikh said the attacks would make the Muslim community less safe.

He said women in headscarves might be in particular danger and warned all Muslims to be especially vigilant.

Muslim News editor Ahmed Versi noted one of London's biggest Muslim areas, around Aldgate East, had been targeted.

Mr Sheikh said the unique good relationship Muslims had with the government and society was threatened.

"The person who did this was targeting along with wider British society the Muslim community, ruining the good relationship we have."

"Muslims have to be vigilant now, especially the mosques, and I hope the police will increase security" Ahmed Versi Muslim News

He said the police should consider extra protection for mosques and Islamic schools and said Muslims, particularly women in headscarves, should be vigilant and avoid unnecessary journeys.

"It is scary. A tiny element of the community will make use of this. It is a blow to us, to all of us. It is a moment of sadness and we send our condolences to the families of those who have been killed or injured."

Mr Versi said he had already received one threatening e-mail about the blasts.

"There might be some increase in attacks on the Muslim community especially visible aspects of Islam like mosques, community centres and women with headscarves.

"Recently there have been a lot of attacks on Muslim women on buses in London, it has increased during the last few months."

But he said the immediate Muslim revulsion at the attacks could help calm the situation.

"I don't think there'll be as high a number of attacks as after 11 September because Muslims have come out very strongly, especially Muslim leaders, condemning the attacks.

"I'm sure many Muslims will have been injured as well... one of the bombs - at Aldgate - was near to the east London mosque, it's a very heavy Muslim area.

"Muslims have to be vigilant now, especially the mosques, and I hope the police will increase security on mosques and Islamic centres."

.I ALWAYS said the should DO something about it if they are sincere.

It certainly WOULD be nice if there was more action within the community at ferreting out these evil people, than there is whining about various injustices real and imagined...

My apologies as well for allowing a petty issue to take away from the thread which deals with the Muslim Community saying they condemn the attacks "but" which is an acronym for B.ehold The U.nderlying T.ruth which is that they think it's our fault, and are only worried about their own sorry asses.

BULLSH*T! Pardon my language, but there has been absolutely NO condemnation regarding this wholesale slaughter of innocent, defenseless people. These "people" are merely attempting to protect themselves and I, personally, could care less what happens to them. Let them have a taste of what it feels like to be attacked for no reason, I really don't care. They are STILL a part of that cult of death and with that comes repercussions.

Sorry, but it is the Muslims who attack women.

If you read the article there is more concern about muslims being retaliated against than condemnation of the attacks.

They knew it was coming, and to say otherwise is utter BS. Muzzies support other muzzies. It's there religious duty to support jihad in any way possible. For the cowards, money and kitman are the options to choose from. For the true muzzies, death and destruction. It's how they live their lives through islam. The F'n koranimals will continue to kill until they are killed. Time to see how Europe reacts...

This is Muslim diarrhea of the mouth. No condemnation of Alqaida, of Osama, of Zarqawi. No Fatwah on anyone. Nothing.

The reason they keep getting away with not directly condemning attacks or apologizing for attacks is because they always say "Hey, it wasn't real Muslims! It was those pesky radicals!"

"Muslim leaders join condemnation"

Sorry, not good enough.

It's muslim leaders who encourage these attacks- the ones running madrassas; the ones preaching venom in mosques across the Middle East; the ones running countries that train and support terrorist cells.

Every one of them a "muslim leader".

Why don't we build internment camps safe refuge facilities where Muslims can go when they feel threatened?

Define militant islam as a terrorist movement; give it the same stigma and legal status that communism had during the cold war.

Require muslims (or the whole population, heck) to certify they do not belong to any religion that advocates the violent overthrow or conquest of another country, and that they specifically foreswear and abandon parts of their "religion" that call for those things.

Give the law some teeth.
