LONDON - An explosion destroyed a double-decker bus in central London during rush hour Thursday, police said. There were reports of casualties.

The bus exploded near Russell Square not long after several blasts were reported on London subways, police said. A witness said the entire top deck of the bus was destroyed.

"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang, I turned round and half the double decker bus was in the air," Belinda Seabrook told Press Association, the British news agency.

She said the bus was packed with people.

"It was a massive explosion and there were papers and half a bus flying through the air," she said.

The U.S. terror alert should be raised.

This was timed due to the G8 and london getting the olympics... whoever had the cajones to pull this off is going to pay dearly

This is awful. I have just seen a picture of the bus in Russel Square. It is torn in half. God bless those poor people.

This is unimaginable. Walking through London yesterday afternoon was amazing - the joy the city had about winning the olympics had put an extra step in each stride and a smile on every face. You could feel it in the air.

What a difference today. This is the first day of this week I haven't been working in central London. My prayers are with my friends, collegues and all Londoners.

The major security effort was in Scotland for the G8, and terrorists took advantage of it.

That's where I'd be putting my money. The British have tolerated radical imams spewing hatred for years to the disaffected muslim slum population.

A bit much for the Irish, typical for the Jihadists.

The French with their pride hurt by the olympic decision. (no of course I don't believe this) This is terrible and poor timing. It could influence ith G8 meeting in a way whoever did this doesn't want.
