I have been in the newspaper newsroom since an hour ago, but we are just finding out about this now since nobody was checking the wires since we
have the stuff we need for today (we are an afternoon paper).

This is interesting. There are no TV monitors or radios in your newsroom/newsbuilding? What time zone are you in? I think you may have unveiled (unwittingly?) one of the reasons why papers can seem so rooted in their biases.
We have a TV, but for some reason nobody has it on.
We only turn it on sometimes.
It is a small paper. Luckily, I am just interning here. I have no doubt a bigger paper would have the TV news on all the time.
