The Republican rank and file understand the importance of this nomination - they will be undermined by the cowardice of the Senate Republicans, who will not forbid a filibuster. When dems return to Senate power, judicial filibuster will be the first "right" of the minority they will eliminate.

My first impression is that you are completely correct but then it occurred to me that the Senate Republicans may well be forced to act because of the magnitude of the position. IOW, the fact that it is a SCOTUS nominee may mean that the combined pressure from the party proper, Republican voters, and the President may force those chickens into a corner where it's fight or die.

You are correct in believing the republican senators will fold like a cheap suit.
I have absolutely no confidence in the lot.
I also wouldn't invite a single one over for two minutes to share my 4th bar-b-wue.
