Dolly,

You done good, girl! This is a beautiful thread. As for aoHell, there are plenty of other options available. AOL is a control freak on steroid.

I'm also in awe with Michael's knowledge and his sense of humor. I have BOTH his books, signed. (neenar neenar neeeenar) You ought to get his Limo book too, it's really great. You'll especially enjoy his little jabs at the limousine liberals, ha!

Happy Independence Day, All.
May this great country of ours remain FREE forever more.
Thank you, men and women in Uniform, our freedom keepers!

Foolish Baggage

Read:
1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us. —Hebrews 12:1

Bible In One Year: Hosea 1-4

cover In 1845, the ill-fated Franklin Expedition sailed from England to find a passage across the Arctic Ocean.

The crew loaded their two sailing ships with a lot of things they didn't need: a 1,200-volume library, fine china, crystal goblets, and sterling silverware for each officer with his initials engraved on the handles. Amazingly, each ship took only a 12-day supply of coal for their auxiliary steam engines.

The ships became trapped in vast frozen plains of ice. After several months, Lord Franklin died. The men decided to trek to safety in small groups, but none of them survived.

One story is especially heartbreaking. Two officers pulled a large sled more than 65 miles across the treacherous ice. When rescuers found their bodies, they discovered that the sled was filled with table silver.

Those men contributed to their own demise by carrying what they didn't need. But don't we sometimes do the same? Don't we drag baggage through life that we don't need? Evil thoughts that hinder us. Bad habits that drag us down. Grudges that we won't let go.

Let's determine to "lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us" (Hebrews 12:1). —Dave Egner

The world has lost its transient lure—
Its evil spell I shun;
I've set my course for higher things
Till earth's brief race is run. —Bosch

Keep out of your life anything that would crowd Christ out of your heart.

Some people really know how to have fun dont they?

It is cooler today & rain clouds are gathering. It might rain on my bike ride back..

Isn't that the bloody truth!

Thanks for "Coffee with some punch" ! hey, a new buzzword for your daily post?

Thanks for your words of encouragement. We carry around so much and all we need is the Lord. You remind us of that.

Are you all ready for the parade? Got your camera with you so you can take pictures? Has it cooled off some for you? We are supposed to have 102--but right now the breeze feels good.

Thanks for that idea that you shared. I have been collecting some backgrounds, too, from here and there on Google. My collection gets kinda scattered in Fotki--I need to learn how to group images together by subject matter! I have to search and search for what I want--that is one reason it takes me so long to "set the table"! :o)

Yes, we can't thank the ladies enough, and that includes you!, for all the help and encouragement we have gotten as we learn new things!

Thanks so much for the invite! Here's a quick and easy recipe that seems to go over well with our crowd at picnics (and it's pretty):

Crunchy Corn Salad

2 cans crispy yellow and white corn, drained well
1 can stir fry baby corn nuggets, drained well
1 roasted sweet red pepper, chopped small (if using those in jars, drain well)
1 cup baby frozen peas, thawed

Mix all these together, then toss with your favorite dressing just to lightly cover (Vidalia onion or ranch are best, but some people love bleu cheese with this), and put in 4 "Eight ball" small round zucchinis, sliced halfwise and scooped out to form small bowls. Chill, covered, until serving. Makes 8. You can skip the zucchini bowls if gets too complicated for what you're doing (grin!).

Since we can't all be in DC to see the fireworks over our Nation's Capitol, we can make our own:

Hi all... a few recipe(EASY & QUICK) ideas.. one has been around a bit but just resurfaced at ATRW a few weeks ago:

Lemonade Pie

1 Can Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 Can of condensed frozen lemonade (thawed)
Container of Cool Whip

Mix all together & put in

Graham Cracker Crust

Freeze. (can sub any frozen concentrate flavor). This is super easy & super good.

@@@

I enjoy more & more picnics of appetizer, finger food. No need to grill etc.

Pinwheels... I have done "wraps".. way before they became hot in California.. I have used tortilla shells for so many things including my pinwheels.

you stack various things on tortillas(I use the biggest ones I can find), multi layer. Roll tightly, chill well, & slice for finger foods...Must use very sharp knife. Slice to any thickness you desire

a couple ideas:

PJ pinwheel... Peanut Butter on one tortilla, Jam etc on another. Not too much jam as it gets too soupy. 2 or 4 layers. Kids love this

Ham n Cheese ...thin layers of cheese & shaved ham. I used a spread of mostly mayo but with touch of mustard, touch of BB sauce & some minced onion.

Multi cheese... thin layers of many cheeses..same dressing. As a vegetarian, I love this one.

Cream cheese + (almost anything) - soften room temp cream cheese and add one or more of minced: onion, black olives, pesto, sundried tomatoes, dried fruit...

Rice Crispie Treats (embellished)

the basic recipe is on the box (basically butter, marshmallows & rice crispies)

I add M & Ms, various nuts (beer nuts are fun), raisins etc. the more the merrier -just make a little more of the glaze with additional ingred.. I have also made it with cheerios..

What a fun site ... thanks. Now that i have Oliver, I don't do too many fireworks events like I used to. He goes with me most places & it positively terrified to be at a site. Last year, I went with my friend & his kids & left O home... when I got back , he was shivering & shell shocked "looking" and I felt pretty guilty. Even our sleepy neighborhood must COME ALIVE fourth of July evenings
