I ran across this by dumb luck, and thought I'd post it.

Here, let me fix it:

There, that's better!

If he is in a Virginia hospital, and getting medicaid, does that mean my taxes here are paying for his treatment?
Why didn't medicaid require that he go to a hospital in his home state?
Better question: Why didn't medicaid cover his surgery?
And, not to ask too many questions, but why would a hospital not operate on a patient that can't pay? That doesn't sound like John's Hopkins to me....
Or better question: If you are destitute, do you deserve to go to the best hospital in the world for your procedure just because you are famous? If JHU is really not operating on people unless they pay cash in advance, aren't there any poor unknown people (people who are poor for reasons other than having quit their job to become famous) who would be better recipients of a free medical procedure at the best hospital in the world?
Last question: If he couldn't pay for a medical procedure, how could he pay for all these flights all over the country that he was taking before his surgery?
I hope that he ends up healthy, but the story has a lot of holes.

Stephenson says Medicaid is now covering him, so his medical bills are not a cause of concern. Hmm. At what point in the fund-raising process did THIS little revelation occur?

Conservatives are attacking Stephenson because he's a progressive activist Read that as:
Conservatives are attacking Stephensons because he is sensitive, caring and working hard for the downtrodden and voters dis-enfranchised by the republican vote stealing machine.
No subtle bias here
During Reagan's funeral, a lib I know commented that he thought it was a travesty anything was being spent on his burial. That we should dig a hole and chuck him in. When I called him on it, he went heh, heh, couldn't you tell I was just kidding. Uh hum.

I know the emotions the word "cancer" brings up. However, I am not ready to give all "cancer patients" license to do as they please and ignore all rules, laws and basic standards of human decency. Anyone who has followed this from the beginning knows that Andy and his friends have lied, manipulated, coerced, intimidated and harassed to get money for his "life-saving surgery". All the while, Andy could have received adequate medical treatment through state and federal health care programs.
This "article" implies that anyone who questions Andy and his fund-raising friends are villains. But do a little research and you may find yourself questioning that assumption.

FReepers weren't the only ones who thought Andy was a scam artist. Even Skinner (the owner of DU) thought there was a strong possiblity they were being scammed so he shut down all threads on Andy and locked or removed any new postings about it until he had concrete confirmation from JHU that infact Andy was a patient there.
Being associated with known scam artist Bev Harris didn't help him.
And isn't the $50K he got in donations taxable as income? Go get him IRS!

Tough luck/no sarcasm intended. That type of cancer is usally terminal.Normally i wouldn't give this guy the time of day,but it does sound as though he has cancer and needs help.In that case what's the harm in soliciting and accepting donations?BTW,He better expect an audit.Keep those receipts:)

I know nothing about this controversy but I recently had a good friend die of pancreatic cancer. Before he died I did some research on the disease and the picture ain't pretty. It's almost Lourdes material to survive over 18 months.

Hadn't seen this article before.
I have no problem w/ Mr. Stephenson going to Hopkins. It IS the best of the best when it comes to medical care.
I wish him a full and speedy recovery.
