Don’t fall for old straw-man trick(we killed more Iraqis than Saddam, btw)
The Charleston Gazette ^

Posted on 06/30/2005 2:51:33 PM PDT by james500

Since my name is Molly Ivins and I speak for myself, I’ll tell you exactly why I opposed invading Iraq: because I thought it would be bad for this country, our country, my country. I opposed the invasion out of patriotism, and that is the reason I continue to oppose it today — I think it is bad for us. I think it has done nothing but harm to the United States of America. I think we have created more terrorists than we faced to start with and that our good name has been sullied all over the world. I think we have alienated our allies and have killed more Iraqis than Saddam Hussein ever did.

Is this the same Molly Ivins that approvingly quoted someone saying "The only thing wrong with Texas Baptists is that they don't hold them under the water long enough"?

Even leftist organizations said that under Saddam, a minimum of 4,500 women and children were killed each month.

That's the new democrat talking point. I've heard it from several sources over the past week.

Problem is, like most of their talking points, it's a lie. A big lie.

We know of between 300,000 and 1 million people killed by Saddam. Isn't the number of Iraqi civilians killed in the war 12,000? And doesn't that number include civilians killed by the "insurgents"?

It reads like it was written by an 8 year old, and provides no proof to support what she is saying. For her proof, she just restates her theory.

I think it is bad for us. I think it has done nothing but harm to the United States of America.

Of course you think that, Ivins. When your head's not up your a$$ it's conversing with elitist academics, journalists and hollywood script readers. You never have written a column that anyone but the aforementioned could appreciate. Why would you have any reason to be exposed to facts and truth?

I think we have created more terrorists than we faced to start with

How many were there to start with? Any guesses?

Since thirty or forty thousand people went through Bin Ladin's camps and then scattered to the winds, how does she propose to round them all up?

Some of them went home to Algeria and slaughtered about 200,000 civilians. Where did the others go?

All of this happened prior to 911 and prior to the invasion of either Iraq or Afghanistan, so it has nothing to do with Bush or any of his policies. It has to do with the nature of BinLadinism itself, and muslim fascism itself. It has to do with an ideology which gives sawing-off-people's-heads a political excuse, a religious justification, that only a nutball would ever fall for, but then that is what we are dealing with here.

Whether by design or by serendipity, these jihadist fruitcakes are jumping on buses all over the world and finding their way to Baghdad where young marines introduce them to their Maker.
