You should follow the excerpt rule for two reasons:

1. EJ writes for the Washington comPost;

2. I wouldn't have to read his entire screed, and keep my breakfast down... ;^)

You sure this isn't Scrappleface?? It's pretty bad when you can't tell the difference.

==That's how guilt-by-association works. Make a charge and then — once your attack is out there — pretend that your words have been misinterpreted. Split your opponents. Put them on the defensive. Force them to say things like: "No, we're not soft on terrorism," or, "I'm not that kind of liberal." Once this happens, the attacker has already won.

Let's hope it works...because what he said is absolutely TRUE.

"Respectable opinion treats Rove's speech as just another partisan flap. It's much more. It's the reincarnation of a style of politics that turns political opponents into traitors or dupes who are soft on the nation's enemies. Welcome back to the '50s."

The truth really hurts doesn't it? It almost makes one forget the accusations that has been thrown Bush's way for the last few years.

"In the 1950s, the right wing attacked liberals for being communists. In 2005, Karl Rove has attacked liberals for being therapists. Thus is born a kinder and gentler form of McCarthyism."

Oh my GOD!

I would almost agree with the post, except for the fact that McCarthy was right.

Anybody who denies that America has become more socialistic/communistic in the last five decades is smokin somethin better than I ever had...

Now, just go home, shut up, and pay your property taxes. Watch your DVD's, and sit on your backside until the local town council decides you're not enough of a benefit for the community to own the land you're on.

All the while praising pubbies and the American way and shrub and liberty and freedumb.

Well. I guess liberals would have to be *forced* to say they're "not soft on terrorism" eh?

This guy wrote for the NY Times before he switched to the Washington Compost. He also sits on the board of the Brookings Institution--a far left "think tank."

Many of his columns and public speeches are obsessed with stamping out every vestige of Judeo-Christian thought--although he never seems to have a problem with Hinduism, Islam, New Age cults, or any other religious system.

Now that the nice Liberal from the Seattle Times has made his statement, and of course we believe him because he is so wise, sagacious, and a Liberal - then let's apply the nasty Modus Operandi to Senator Durbin.

Gotcha, ya nasty lil Liberals!

Where was the outrage for Moveon.org and 527s? Oh, it's like Palestinians after 911, they all cheered, except here they cheer at their own death. Liberals are no therapuists nor mere traitors, they are the suicidal employees butt k$$ers of the terrorists.

McCarthism would be an honor persecution to grand for them, their stupidity warrants no such considerations.

What the Liberals would like is for the Republicans to get in the mud with them and join them in their insanity. As much as we like to rip Republicans for their spineless responses, by staying above the fray and responding to their insanity with reason, the contrast becomes that more apparent between us.

We take away the enemies charge that Republicans are hatemongers by killing them with kindness. At the same time skewering their hate filled diatribes by holding a mirror up to their behavior.

I have been finding myself filled with rage against their treason. Instead of rage, our energy needs to be used to find the center of balance to use their own rage against them to make them look even more foolish.
(If that is possible)

This is exactly what Carl Rove accomplished. He didn't scream, he didn't yell he wasn't angry but his words were devastating judging from the squeals from the Liberals.

Disciplined and calm, to await the appearance of disorder and hubbub amongst the enemy:--this is the art of retaining self-possession

Throughout this entire screed, you'll notice Dionne never denies the truth of the charges made either by McCarthy or Rove. He simply attacks the bearers by changing the subject, innuendo, accusations of malicious intent, and garish attacks on their personal character and intentions.

He never claims the charges are false.

He can't.

In the 1950s, the right wing attacked liberals for being communists.

In the 2000s, the left wing attacked Pres. Bush for being Hitler.

What's the difference between McCarthy and Dionne? At least McCarthy was right about something.

"In the 1950s, the right wing attacked liberals for being communists"

Should read, "In the 50s, the right wing attacked Soviet-infiltrated communists working in the US government. The Kremlin files documented that McCarthy was actually correct in some cases.

Opinion considered "respectable" by whom? Only the ill-informed or disingenuous would "treat Rove's speech as just another partisan flap." It is much more. It's a clever use of truthful information to cause those who are, or act as though they are, "traitors or dupes who are soft on the nation's enemies" to reveal themselves, or to recognize themselves for what they are, as well as helping others to recognize them for what they are. Karl Rove turned no one into a traitor or a dupe - they made those choices for themselves long before Karl Rove's speech.

E.J. Dumbass still belives Alger Hess was a patriotic American.

Can someone tell me if Tucker Carlson is really E.J.'s adopted son?
