But she'll complain that America is racist. Imagine this happening to her in this country ... there would be a civil war.

Oprah.

The French.

This is a target-rich environment.

So, the store has been having problems with "north Africans"? Well, everybody knows Oprah had her DNA tested and she is a ZULU -- a SOUTH African....they should have let her in. /sarcasm

They wouldn 't let me in either, I presume, because I am a short, fat, protestant, English-speaking white guy...the difference between Oprah and I that makes the most difference, however, is that I don't care if the French don't let me in their bauble stores.

"Oprah Reportedly Gets The Boot In Paris"

I know they're French, but still, I hope they didn't hurt their feet.

Oh, yeah? If I ever have a store, I won't let any french people in! I won't let Oprah in, either.

I've experienced similar treatment right here in the U.S. (and I'm white, not black). I went furniture shopping in Greenwich CT, and couldn't get any of the sales people to so much as look at me. The same happened in a Jaguar dealership, about a year after the first incident.

I didn't whine. I didn't complain. I just took my CASH elsewhere.

They probably didn't want the expense of widening the front door.

they have been having trouble with North Africans

Didn't she just announce last week that she discovered she is SOUTH African Zulu?

How dare they call her North African!

"when she tried the door, they refused her entry because they have been having trouble with North Africans."

If they were having "problems" why not hire good security? The self-described tolerant French strikes again.

"when she tried the door, they refused her entry"

Was this captured on tape?
Many people would spend large sums of money to have seen this.

The shop employees just didn't recognize that Oprah is THE MOST POWERFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD. Perhaps her show isn't broadcast in Paris.

Actually, if you read the complete story it was a classic case of over-zealous racial profiling that got Winfrey the boot from the store.

I think the majority of French citizens don't know who Winfrey is and small wonder why it happened. But yet, if you read the story she did finally get in, probably because the store's manager probably knew who Winfrey is (and would be more than welcome to lighten her wallet a bit! ).

AP

The luxury store Hermes has apologized to Oprah Winfrey for turning her away from one of its Paris boutiques last week, saying it was closed for a public relations event when she came knocking.

The talk-show host and "an entourage" unsuccessfully tried to enter an Hermes boutique on Paris' posh Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore at 6:45 p.m. on June 14, Hermes said in a statement.

"People were in the store and they were shopping. Oprah was at the door and she was not allowed into the store," Gayle King, a friend of Winfrey who witnessed the incident, told syndicated TV show "Entertainment Tonight." "Oprah describes it herself as `one of the most humiliating moments of her life."'

King said it's unlikely that Winfrey will shop there again. "She's really OK. Her position is, `I will shop where people appreciate my business, and I don't believe that any longer includes Hermes,"' King said.

The store's normal closing time is 6:30 p.m., although high-end shops are known to make exceptions for celebrities. On that particular night, however, "a private public relations event was being prepared inside," the statement from Hermes said.

"Hermes regrets not having been able to welcome Madame Oprah Winfrey and the people accompanying her to give them all the attention and service that Hermes is committed to giving each of its clients in the world," said the statement, released Tuesday. "Hermes expresses its sincere regrets for any misunderstanding that these circumstances could have caused."

A spokeswoman for Winfrey's Chicago-based Harpo Productions told The Associated Press Thursday the talk-show host plans to discuss her "Crash" moment when "The Oprah Winfrey Show" returns to the air in September.

"Crash" is a film dealing with race relations.

Let me get this straight. The store had closed. They were setting up for some sort of after-hours special event. Oprah is frosted because she was not accorded special treatment in being allowed to enter, even though I'm sure nobody on this board would have been allowed to enter (no, I don't shop there, but my wife has aspirations to live beyond our means). And this is evil, profiling, discrimination etc.?

WTF???!!!
