These are just some of many posters and other propaganda that our government issued during World War II to focus American attention on victory. Granted, with 16 million young men at war, the necessary mobilization dwarfed anything that this war may require. But the American people never lost sight of the quest for victory nor a healthy fear of the enemy.
One can see palpable in the American public. All too many of us have forgotten. And when we forget our peril, we cease to fight for our freedom. That forgetfulness ironically stems from our own military success and ability heretofore to prevent terrorist attacks at a relatively small price. But we cannot win if we forget that for which we fight. Our troops have not forgotten and will not forget, but will we forget our murdered countrymen [and women] or will we remember their horrible death and vow to protect this country with the blessings of Almighty God?
We must make this decision, and we will make it this year and next. We cannot afford to fail.

If you want to win this war, then you have to make it a national effort. We need the public to ration, save gas and rubber and newspapers and animal fat, we need the public to buy war bonds, we need to shut down consumer manufacturing and devote all of our factory space to wartime goods, etc.
Most people today, dont even realize that we are in a war, and no one, over here, seems to be affected by it, or care about it, either.
We need to secure our borders as we did in the 1940's, etc.
If you dont get the average public person involved, and interested in the war as they were in 1942, then you will lose support for the war, and you will lose it.

Excellent. Memories of the Greatest generation... too bad we can't seem to live up to what they fought for.

That America is dead and gone, we are too occupied with international opinion, which is always anti-American.
To prop up Germany's economy we threw them the ability to build conventional subs by shutting down our industry here in the USofA. Then when we need to sell conventional subs to Taiwan the Germans thumb their nose at us.
Followed by sending their "Minister of Defense" to China to discuss how to stop us from building our MDS. With friends like Germany and France, who needs enemies? And why do we care what they think, and why do we fear the development of the E.U. and feel we need to compete by making all of the Western Hemisphere one entity, as is Bush's agenda?
No, the America that these posters represent has been dead nd gone for some time now as far as government goes.
