I have problems with the "conservative" part. He co-authored with Murray(D) the bill for ratepayer subsidized solar roofs that just passed the senate the other day. He's not the kind of conservative that believes in a free market or small government, apparently.

The bill, SB 1, -- co-authored by senators Kevin Murray, D-Los Angeles, and John Campbell, R-Orange County, and endorsed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger -- would establish the nation's largest, long-term solar power program. It aims to clear the way for a million solar-powered homes and businesses over 20 years, including building half of all new homes with solar power by 2017.

CA: Solar-power subsidies a costly follyI think I agree with the comment in the original article:
"John Campbell has spent all this time sucking up to [Gov.] Arnold Schwarzenegger, and we know that Arnold Schwarzenegger ain't a real Republican."

In all fairness, everyone was pressured to support some type of gun control shortly after the tragic shooting of Columbine High School in 1999. Initial polls showed gun control gave the RATS a huge advantage with suburban voters. The forecast for a RAT takeover of Congress in 1999 looked sunny. Many republicans were just ducking for political cover. Few political analysts could have predicted that Columbine would be a distant memory by Nov 2000.
