To remind'em where they left their thongs.
Believe in nothing, fall for anything.
Or you could create your own holiday like Kwanzaa.
"It was Bahai. Then Scientology. Now Kabbalah."
For some it's still Scientology I think. Theyre a pretty scary cult. They used to have those "stress test" tents outside my old office, I wanted NOTHING to do with those people.
That's easy. They are facinated with majik and anything but the truth of Christ. It's just another way for them to be their own god.
The main reason is because it's not Christian, but it still makes them feel like they're being "spiritual".
It is a frightening scam, but but very few people fall for it. Probably fewer than 50,000 Americans are active Scientologists and almost all of them live in Southern CA or Clearwater, FL.
"They are facinated with majik"
I think they like anything "spiritual", but must avoid biblical faiths at all cost since those involve rules. Plus, they fundamentally look down on traditional faiths/values, so they can't find spirituality in those. That's why they're so easy to get into cults.
Mmm.. Fetish idolatry. At least they might bgin to understand how other people feel about their Sacred Text. That good thing for a 'progressive'.
The really interesting thing is that none of them, maybe not even the Bergs, know what the red strings actually mean. And there is a real meaning to them.
"The main reason is because it's not Christian, but it still makes them feel like they're being "spiritual"."
Yep. They desperately want spiritality, but they can't find it in Christianity or REAL Judaism (as opposed to this kabbalah center nonsense) because then their hollywood friends would say "What are you, like, a Republican now?"
"Ellis has spent thousands of dollars buying complete sets of the Zohar for his home, office and family. "That's the telephone line to God. All you have to do is plug it in and you're connected,"...
That "telephone line" is what you get with Jesus, not this satanic khabblah-blah-blah counterfeit.
The goal seems to be to feel a sense of connection to a Higher Power which doesn't affect one's "lifestyle choices". Kind of like gazing lovingly at a baby picture while neglecting the crying baby right next to you.
In the same way, Ho-wood Sufis will just go round and round until dizzy and call it a spiritual high.
The guy claims to be a former SBCer, too.

"The goal seems to be to feel a sense of connection to a Higher Power which doesn't affect one's "lifestyle choices"."
EXACTLY. I think you just put it perfectly.
Yeah. Their approach to spirituality is sort of like the Chomsky approach to economic theory. "Okay, since the state never will wither away let's just skip that part and jump straight to the world shall live as one part." Sort of a Lenin-to-Lennon approach.
I thought there were fascinated with Scientology?
