Glad the White House has commented, but, frankly, a greater condemnation is necessary. Durbin should be reminded that it is the U.S. Armed Forces who give him the freedom to speak on a Senate floor at all.

When Durbin leaves the Senate, he can always get a job as an anti-America propaganda reporter for Al Jazeera.

A Durbin spokesman said Wednesday that the senator did not plan to apologize for the comments. The senator issued a statement saying it's the administration that should apologize...
When was the last time you heard one of the GOP panty-waist senators respond to a demand for apology like that? Durbin is a treasonous skunk, but sadly our side is populated with shrinking violet losers.

Flagellate, they should flagellate rather than castigate.

Mr. Durbin is either being very ignorant, stupid or a fibber when he says this. The GITMO detainees aren't covered by the Geneva Convention.

Bush needs to go on national TV and hold a press conference and publicly castigate all these idiots who are smearing our soldiers. Enough is enough already. He needs to make clear we are at war and that these are the same people who only 4 years ago killed 3,000 innocent Americans. He mention those people in the WTC who jumped to escape being engulfed by flames. Unfortunately many of have forgotten. I am sorry but Scott McClellan is a push over. Whenever he issues a statement on behalf of the Pres. who looks scared.

Durbin, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat..."Number 2" pretty much says it all.

Turbin Durbin also compared Gitmo to Nazi concentration camps? The White House should denounce this strongly. Where is the ADL to demand he visit the Holocaust Memorial?

Does anyone know if Durbin has ever been down to Guanatanamo?
The reason I ask is that if he personally witnessed the actions of some detainees (ex: assaulting prison guards, spitting on them, etc), I'll bet he change his tune real fast.
I think a week spent aassiting the guards in Guantanamo would do a lot to cure Durbin's attitude problem.

I just called Senator Durbin's office to correct his misapprehension that the GITMO detainees are somehow covered under the Geneva Convention. I was very polite about it, but the person doing the answering rudely hung up without bothering to acknowledge my presence.
If that is the quality of help that Mr. Durbin has working for him, then all I can say is "heaven help him."

The Geneva Convention does not apply.

A Durbin spokesman said Wednesday that the senator did not plan to apologize for the comments. The senator issued a statement saying it's the administration that should apologize "for abandoning the Geneva Conventions and authorizing torture techniques that put our troops at risk and make Americans less secure."You'd think our side would have this kind of moxy, not being hamstrung by being quite as morally corrupt as are their opponents.

"authorizing torture techniques that put our troops at risk and make Americans less secure."
Yeah, right now those terrorists just cut off American's heads and blow them up. We wouldn't want to do anything that might actually "put our troops at risk".

The silence of Jewish organizations is interesting. Durbin just belittled those who died and suffered in the Holocaust by comparing what they went through with what the terrorists in Gitmo are going through. Usually, such comparisons draw loud condemnation from Jewish organizations.

Not only he is a traitor but he is also politically dumb. Accusing the US military of behaving like Nazis will greatly alienate this traitor idiot with 70% of the country.
