Here are a few things:
Over on Websleuths, one of the Aruban posters is explaining that Max Arends, the student/classmate of Joran's, is NOT the one questioned by police. That was Max Arendsz, whom someone else described as being a drag racer.

the original with the "thin" photo of Steve Croes, describes him (Croes) as "the best and crazyiest [sp] driver I have ever met!"
So perhaps that's the link between these two ....
