I think the Left really is putting politics ahead of the good of their country in this debate. They now oppose a war they always wanted before because of the president who's waging it. (There are also the real hard-core leftovers who oppose everything America does in principle, and obviously they're also traitors.)
My opposition is different. I can respect the opinion of my many friends who support the war, but I think they're horribly wrong. But to question the political use of our military is in no way problematic for a patriotic American, in and of itself. I hope our guys kill every jihadi bastard over there, and take as few casualties as possible. While we're there, I hope we find and destroy every car bomb factory and kill every terrorist.
I don't want to undermine the war effort by setting a public timetable for withdrawal, but even Bush is now starting to talk about "an exit strategy," thank goodness. I'd like to see our boys come home ASAP, and I'd like to try to convince people that we should be more careful before we invade and occupy a country in the future.
I think it's a debate worth having -- it's part of the freedom your son is fighting right now to preserve. I'm not doing this for any cheap political benefit, only because I really care about my country's well-being and I don't think it's being served right now.
