Is there a conspiracy against Russia?

MOSCOW, June 10. (RIA Novosti) - Many Russians view the eastward advance of NATO and "color" revolutions in former Soviet countries of the CIS as interconnected events. Is there a conspiracy against Russia?

Writer Alexander Prokhanov and Alexander Yakovlev, head of the Democracy foundation, shared their opinions on this score in a weekly, Argumenty i Fakty, in the run-up to Russia Day on June 12.

The West's geostrategic objective is to weaken Russia, to prevent it from becoming a superpower again, and to turn it into a compliant donor. This is why Russia is being surrounded by security cordons and "hostile regimes" are being established around it. "So, there are all the elements of a conspiracy," Prokhanov said.

According to him, the attack against Russia includes the introduction of foreign standards and values in Russian society. "Hollywood is as important as the CIA in this attack, and the eastward advance of NATO is as important as young Russian men wearing T-shirts with the American flag," the writer said. "And the consequences of this attack are unpredictable."

Yakovlev said there was certainly a conspiracy against Russia, but it involved Russian bureaucrats who were "greedy, corrupt and despised their own people." He said the goal of this collusion was personal power and enrichment.

"In the past, we blamed everything on the Jews, [but] now it is the turn of Americans," said Yakovlev, a "hero" of Mikhail Gorbachev's perestroika. "If you watch Russian television regularly, you get the impression that the U.S. has nothing to do other than plot against Russia."

Yakovlev was shocked by the results of a poll according to which 80% of Russians view America as the country's main enemy. "Russia and the Soviet Union never fought the U.S. Not a single Russian soldier was killed by an American and vice versa," he said. "And now this shocking result. But if you ask anyone what the U.S. did to him or her personally, they will have no answer."

On the whole, if there is a conspiracy against Russia, "the main conspirators are we ourselves," Yakovlev said.

It would be ironic, considering the communists in Hollywood.

A very dangerous conspiracy with the potential for deadly results. If nothing is done to change this trend it will end badly. Hate seems to rarely die a quiet death.

Sounds like they're not blaming America, but blaming Hollywood (like we do). Hopefully they know the difference.

No, he's not. If you read the article he's actually saying that it is completely wrong to blame the Americans.

Before a people can make one important change their culture (strength through humbleness), they must understand the problem themselves and be willing to change.

If you go back and read the article more carefully you'll see that Yakovlev is saying the opposite. He personally does not see an American plot. Yakovlev is one of the good guys -- check out some of his books.

At least years ago when Jewish oligarchy made a Russian Dream and the seven oligarchs had influence toward the Yeltsin regime, the 5 Jewish Oligarchies out of the seven feared to be seen as controlling the country that they have selected a Russian Oligarchy to lead them. This may be an indication at least within the last several years, there has been some sort of anti-semitism within Russia that alerted the Jewish community for chances of spreading Jewish related conspiracy theory. Two of the seven, which were Jews had to escape the country being offended by the (Putin's) regime. It is uncertain what the true motivation of Putin is but there has been a rise of racism and nationalism. This could be very concerning for the Jewish community in Russia. Usually when Anti-Americanism spreads, anti-semitism also arise. This was the case for Middle East, and you will probably notice this in other countries as well. They come in a set.

==On the whole, if there is a conspiracy against Russia, "the main conspirators are we ourselves," Yakovlev said.

If he means Putin's KGB compirators, then truer words have never been said. I would only add that they are also conspiring against the entire free world.

I think they are missing he point. Russia is not being surrounded. If anything, the former Soviet Union is quietly expanding Westward as it sees the strategic impossibility of once again controlling vast sums of land to its east by use of military and political force.

Countries the former Soviet Union controlled in this fashion are now independent and understanding that Democracy and US policy is more conducive to their growth then regressive poilicies which caused the problem in the first place.

Peole shouldn't kid themselves. The Soviet Union isn't dead. It is just taking an introspective look at itself and realigning along more political and economic lines. The ideology exploits whatever it can for its ultimate purpose and without money you cannot survive.

This is why the EU was important. While believing that France and Germany would be at the forefront of the EU, both countries exhibit Socialist ideology which gives the Soviet Union the in to eventually take over those countries, by force if necessary. The US is out of the loop and realigning troops out of Germany was a major coup for Russia.

Will this happen next week? Of course not. But as I see it the groundwork is being quietly laid and this will happen and France and Germany will look to the US and Great Britian who will shrug and say, you need what?

Accualy it started since 1999 since bombing of Yugoslavia. Before this it was 20% who think that America is "bad guys" but not enemy!
'Enemy' on russian is like 'mortal enemy' of english. Hitlerites was "enemy" but America is not.

Alexander Yakovlev is former member of Politberau of CPSU of Gorbachev. He was marshal of commies. He commanded guys like Putin all days and nights. Putin followed his orders.
The former spy colonel Putin was very small fish in comparison to politberau member Alex Yakovlev.

BUT what is amusing to me that in your eyes Yakovlev is "good guy" but Putin is "commie". How come?:))

Putin did something to quell them. It is very good thing of him.

Two of the seven, which were Jews had to escape the country being offended by the (Putin's) regime. ==

This could be very concerning for the Jewish community in Russia. ==

Of course, terrible, terrible. The antisemitism is so terribly on the rise that Jews from Israel come back to Russia in droves. Terrible indeed.
