The three "persons of interest" have been arrested overnight says Natalee's family spokesperson per Fox News...
Thanks for that info.
Suppose they slipped a drug in her drink that interacted with the alcohol, and suppose she was not truly in her right frame of mind? Anything of that nature is possible. Or that as the night wore on, she was having such fun dancing and socializing that she did not realize exactly how much she had had to drink, and was truly impaired in her judgement.
As to the issue of who the security guards work for, I think somebody could be splitting hairs, in that the men work for a security firm, not directly for the hotel.
Unless they turn up something like significant amounts of blood in the car, I'd think that authorities would have to have a body in this case.
I'm not saying what happened to her is her fault. First of all, none of us really knows -- it's all speculation and armchair quarterbacking at this point. Second, the scenario you mentioned -- drugs -- could have been possible too.
I would like to hope they will find her alive, but it doesn't look good.
Aruba was wise to seek outside help. I'm sure the authorities are generally competent in most matters, but something like this requires others with the expertise and experience.
Considering the size of Aruba and the relatively flat landscape, there can't be that many places to hide a body without leaving a substantial forensic trail. As horrible as it may seem, I can only hold out hope that she has been forced from the island for more nefarious reasons. I pray Natalee will be found alive.
I feel for these people, I really do. But, in cases such as this, what is it that makes parents and relatives feel obligated to stand up and give press conferences? Frankly, what the networks put the parents through at such a difficult time is embarassing and the last thing I want to see is an aunt or uncle on Larry King Live! I remember suffering through watching Chandra Levy's mom and dad as they hit every talk show on the circuit. It's creepy. They may very well may be sincere, but the impression is that, no matter what the tragedy, these people see camera lights and they start brushing their hair. And the networks are all too happy to oblige for the sake of ratings. Sorry for the rant but it's been building for some time...
The second sentence is interesting in that I have seen quite a few other comments in the past week alluding to something more than a typical (God forbid) Kidnap, Rape & Murder case. Just who is this girl's father and who does he know that the FBI would assign 10 additional agents to the case and who did he pi$$ off to have this happen to his daughter?

I don't know that making such a statement is splitting hairs. Should it be established that something happened to this woman on hotel property, the hotel could be sued by the family for wrongful death and be found liable. It's a little bit of preventive lawyering on their part.
I have read that she knew the son of the judge from having met and socialized with him already...before that night at the club. So she might have unfortunately trusted him. As for the other two, I read that Natalee did not leave with three, but with the one guy, then suddenly the other two appeared at the last second and went along. One report even had it that they were hunched down in the back seat of the vehicle, hiding, until Natalee got inside and was driven away. I do not know the veracity of the report, but it is possible. Read my other post about how she could have been impaired beyond her intention, by inadvertent excess alcohol consumption and/or by a drug that could have been slipped into her drink.
What concerns me is the fact that Aruba has very few murders therefore not much experience in solving crime.
FBI is in Aruba assisting.
500,000 US visitors to Aruba in one year? The Aruba Travel Bureau stats show @ 36,000 US visitors in the high season month of January, 2003, the last reported month. If the high season last five months that would be 180,000 total during the season. I doubt that the off season months (half of which is hurricane season) totals equal 75% of that number.
Natalee was attracted to one of the young men. It was her last night there, and he said he was going to take her back to the hotel but wanted to show her the island light house first.
Natalee isn't thinking clearly, she's had a drink or two and her defenses are down. But she trusts this guy and gets in the car with him and the other two...NEVER thinking she'd do more than make out alittle. She was naive and thought that there might be strength in numbers, because the guys usually looked out for her. She was intelligent and the prom queen. She didn't lack for dates.
Something went wrong from there.
All indications are that this was a nice girl with high moral values. Character should count for something. We all need to consider that.

Well, whatever....I still think that a large chunk of the island's tourists come from the U.S.
A friend in Birmingham mentioned that former college classmates of Natalee's father believe he once served in a special ops branch of the military.

Are they assisting in solving the crime or just searching? It was my understanding that a FBI search team that specializes in searching in rocky waters was brought in to help look.
I may be wrong though

I believe the FBI is also helping with the forensic investigation.
I am not thinking in terms of lawsuits. Just facts, as in Dragnet. I call it splitting hairs if the hotel is trying to distance itself from the fact that these men physically worked on their property. The story itself, per msnbc, was saying that confusion has arisen as to the facts of whether these two men worked at the hotel or not, since the police and news media all say they worked at the hotel, but the hotel is now saying, no, they don't work for us. Now if they work for a security company but work at the hotel, it is splitting hairs regarding the facts for the hotel to jump up and say, no, these men are not our employees. They should just say the truth and not confuse the public. These men worked at the hotel, whether they did it directly or indirectly through a security contract. That was the point. Their whereabouts in regard to where Natalee disappeared from. You know, the facts of the case. I was not into lawsuits, just yet.
You are right, if we divert to Martinique (a much better Island imo) then the Netherland Antilles will lose considerable revenues.
