Posted once before in November'04 - but worth reading this to see exactly who was just put on the bench.

Incredible quotes in here that many will want to savor.

Very long --- very learned --- very timely --- very worthwhile studying.

Somehow the word "Brilliant" doesn't seem to be enough. I hope she is confirmed to the SCOTUS.

I just watched Barack Obama stand up on the floor of the US Congress and call this brilliant woman everything just short of Uncle Tom. Then I was treated to Susan Estrich telling everyone with a goofy smile how acceptable he is to the Democrat mainstream. So I guess we can infer that the Democrat mainstream finds class-baiting, racist filth imminently acceptable. My, my, my, how little things have changed.

Many of these quotes are from this speech. A few others are not:

Private property, already an endangered species in California, is now entirely extinct in San Francisco.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

We no longer find slavery abhorrent. We embrace it. We demand more. Big government is not just the opiate of the masses. It is the opiate. The drug of choice for multinational corporations and single moms; for regulated industries and rugged Midwestern farmers and militant senior citizens.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

The quixotic desire to do good, be universally fair and make everybody happy is understandable. Indeed, the majority's zeal is more than a little endearing. There is only one problem with this approach. We are a court.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Government is the only enterprise in the world which expands in size when its failures increase.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

The public school system is already so beleaguered by bureaucracy; so cowed by the demands of due process; so overwhelmed with faddish curricula that its educational purpose is almost an afterthought.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Not really relevant to this article, but Whiter Shade of Pale was my parent's wedding song.

Memorable.

Based on reading this I think I can safely say Her Honor is exactly the type of judge I'd never want to be before if I'd committed some crime:  she'd see through every ounce of BS I'd expect my attorney to fling out there, and I don't think she'd put up with any of it.

"What started in the 1920's; became manifest in 1937; was consolidated in the 1960's; is now either building to a crescendo or getting ready to end with a whimper.

Thank you for posting this. May I suggest that at about 5:00 EDT today, was the beginning of the end of the whimper. Justice Janice Brown will now be a part of that ending.

You ought to post the speech from Senator Barbara Boxer of CA delivered on the Senate floor today, to contrast the intellects of these two women.

I read this piece a while ago. She really is a superb legal mind. I'm tremendously happy to see her on the 2nd most important Court in the country.

Ha! No wonder the Dems blocked her nomination for TWO YEARS! Here we have the genuine article. This is the kind of intelligence I want on the Supreme Court.

No wonder the RATs hated her. She's far to intellectual for them. People like Kerry, the C student, would not understand this wonderful treatise. Hooray for her!
