"If any man ascribes anything of salvation, even the very least thing, to the free will of man, he knows nothing of grace, and he has not learned Jesus Christ rightly." Then what's the point? I'm either pre-saved by God or I'm not. Since there is nothing I can do about it, why should I care at all about God and his rules?

If you convince yourself you are saved you can be self-satisfied because nothing you do matters. It you convince yourself you are damned you can despair because nothing you do matters.
Smugness or despair. What a system.

Because if you have the Holy Spirit inside you, you will try to love God and obey his commandments.
