The Constitution says in Article I, Section 8, "The Congress shall have the power.... To provide for the calling forth the Militia to execute the laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and Repel Invasions;..." Since we are being invaded and the laws of the Union are being violated should the Militia be called up and placed on the borders to protect the laws and the American people?

My concern in the talk of the military being put on our borders is that we do not have enough for here and for overseas. There is also the minor problem of being against the law.

No one in the government seems to be very concerned about this. Of course, we don't know what may be being considered/done on the QT.

W did not campaign on closing the borders, and he has been consistent on trying to do what he has campaigned and said he would do. I just wish that included getting rid of illegal aliens. I am not opposed to a guest worker program, but I am for getting the illegals out of our schools and our hospitals.

I am concerned about the 'anchor babies' being born here. That may call for a new amendment to our Constitution.

Jim, I have to admit I was quite surprised to see the FR poll question this morning given some of the comments you have made in the past. Good for you for posting this. Debate is healthy and, in this case, entirely warranted.

I agree with you to a point, but I would also like to make one. In TX, it is the local dim congresscritters who are trying to keep the Minutemen out. I am very concerned that some may try to vote against pubbies, but please remember that dims would be worse.

My concern here is that for many being their most hot button issue, they are not thinking this through. Whether it be Hitlary! or my GOP, this is playing politics with our soldiers. I thought we had enough of that during the Clinton years.

I live in Texas, so I see up close and personal the illegal immigrant problem. I firmly believe that the integrity of our system and the legitimacy of our laws should be guarded and protected at all times. Border Patrol should be bolstered considerably. Two thousand is not enough. Not even close to being enough.

If anything, I'll tapdance butt naked in Times Square with national and international cameras broadcasting in real time to trash the TSA and divert those resources and a lot more into Border Patrol and the Coast Guard.

Our military's hands are full and will be full for the foreseeable future. I am adamantly against using them for political purposes. No matter what, this ploy is pure politics, and that's disgusting.

This of course the crux of the matter.

A strong case can be made for NO, we are not being invaded. There is no concerted effort by a foreign power to force a military intrusion into American territory.

America is being over run by a series of individuals acting in their own self interest.

The Constitution article speaks of enforcing laws. It would seem that ability could be used to justify rigid Malitia border patrol.

However Americans, real Americans, are also breaking the law by illlegal employment practices. The best way to destroy a political opponent is to show proof of employment of illegals and noncompliance with the various tax and employment laws.Americal law enforcement in some localaties refuse to enforce the laws even when empowered to do so.

Should not the enforcement be directed against the American source of the problem?

Arrest and deportation with a porus border are counter productive. They will return after a few days of forced vacation.

Arrest and deportation coupled with employer fines and business license revocation are another matter. If the incentive to hire illegals is removed the problem will dissapate.

There is apparently no will to do so. Until there is such a will, the problem will not go away.

I don't buy the "doing the jobs that Americans (even blacks per Vicente Fox) won't do. I would like a list of those jobs.

From what I can see all around me, "those jobs" appear to be working in a restaurant, working in construction, picking fruits & vegetables, working in food processing factories, cleaning offices & homes, driving cabs, etc.

My business is in a low-income area of town, we need to hire people from time to time for labor. We've tried to hire locally (in the demographically distressed area we are in), but no one will even apply for the job! Most of the able-bodied adults around me don't need to work, they're almost all getting some form of welfare, SSI, disability, etc. They make more money staying home.

Does posse comitatus apply to:

--a crime perpetrated by a criminal in another country, the result of which crime is that the criminal is now in our country?

--violations of federal law by non-citizens?

--persons (not yet) declared by the feds to be invaders or national security/homeland security threats?

I don't know...just asking.

I thought posse comitatus referred to enforcement of state or local law, and/or crimes occurring entirely within the US.

An armed invasion, uniformed or no, would require a military response...why not a merely possibly armed non-uniformed invasion?

How a wish it was just a Texas problem- I live in MD and we are overrun here too..the magnitude of this invasion is hard for us all to grasp..perhaps we should start a thread on how many of our members see illegals in their communities and I think we will all be amazed.

And why they are permitting tax payers to be turned away from hospitals in their own communities in favor of caring for illegals. And why the federal government is now paying medical providers for the healthcare of illegals

Actually no one is being turned away, and you know that.

I would suggest a glance at an Afghanistan map before saying putting soldiers on the border is a good idea.

And all I could come away with, was that Afghanistan is a very silly name.

I also live in Texas. The level of illegals is increasing. I am concerned for our schools and our hospitals. But I am more concerned with what is, as you have said, the playing of politics with our soldiers. That law is there for a good reason.

Before we moved, illegals were not noticeable in our neighborhood. But since we played George and Weezie and moved on up, I see them all the time! Some of my new neighbors amusing look at me. Why? Because I do my own lawn.

That's where I see them. Behind the lawn mowers in my new neighborhood.

So now if you all would excuse me, I'm about to go do my own lawn again. Inch and a quarter long St. Augustine plush green. Yeah. Feels like the gridiron!

Actually $24 an hour construction jobs are out there begging and are being filled up by a hard working hispanic workforce.

I know it's a part of it. Boots on the ground are very important. Naval action will be more important, but soldiers are indispensable.

Military, since the militia is no longer regulated.

We ARE being invaded. Invasion is not just an infiltration by an ARMED force, it is an encroachment by ANY large group of people, armed or otherwise.

No. Our standing army is unconstitutional. The militia was supposed to be our 'regular' army, but having a standing army is exactly WHY our militia is no longer *regulated*.
