The Constitution says in Article I, Section 8, "The Congress shall have the power.... To provide for the calling forth the Militia to execute the laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and Repel Invasions;..." Since we are being invaded and the laws of the Union are being violated should the Militia be called up and placed on the borders to protect the laws and the American people?

I answered "yes" without going into the fine points of what the militia is and the Second Amendment questions, visa overstays, etc., in order to indicate my very strong opinion that serious and effective measures must be taken.I want every politician who intones that we are a nation of laws to immediately be asked how this squares with illegal aliens.I'm sure I will enjoy reading the discussion.
The Swiss are absolutely brilliant in their military philosophy, as it relates to the average citizen. I was there last summer. We could learn a lot, but we have to deal with the silly dependency class of Americans first.
Those are not the folks to trust with laoded automatic weapons in their homes. They have been deprived of any sense of civic responsibility.
Restore that, and you have a society that will work together, instead af against one another.

I think the politicians are not giving this a lot of thought and of course, giving it no action. This could be the most important problem that is gong to face them this next election because the citizens, most anyhow, are not going to put up with them not acting on this invasion.

I agree. I listen carefully to what is being said by those in government, as do most others here, and I have not heard one single reason why what is being done, or not being done, is a good idea. I don't buy the "doing the jobs that Americans (even blacks per Vicente Fox) won't do. I would like a list of those jobs.
It would have never happened back then. For the sake of this nation something is going to have to be down, now, not later. We don't need to 'study' or 'have hearings' on this problem, it needs fixing now.

In addition to 'potential voters' they are immediate consumers of low priced Chinese goods from mass merchandisers and keep junk cars on the road instead of being relegated to the junk yard.
Let's face it, we as a nation are whores for money and will push the envelope as long as there is a profit involved. This not only applies to the business community but to the general population as well.
I agree with you, gulfcoast. Previously, I'd considered it an unfixable problem, but the success of the Minutemen and the subsequent articles I've read have changed my mind.
What I'd like to see is a more secured social security card system, with scannable and verifiable cardholder info for employers and a grace period whereby all employers who are willing to come clean may report or "unhire" the illegal alien.
Beyond that deadline, for those still intent on breaking the law, seizure of assets and closure of those businesses much like other felons' assets acquired in the commission of criminal activity wouldn't be out of the question.
I'd also like to see a bounty program for information leading to the arrest and convictions of illegal aliens and their felon aids after the grace period expires.
Militarization of the border is needed NOW. With 2500 miles of a new barrier constructed over five years at a cost of $15 million per mile it would only cost the US taxpayer one fifth the illegal aliens' $41 billion annual burden to taxpayers and would reduce the future need of a heavily militarized border.
We also need to seek the dismantling of any organization intent to undermine US laws and decrease apprehension to deportation time to ten days or less. Any appeal of a deportation order should be handled through the Consulars' offices of the alien's native country, not our court system.

Considering the lack of will from the top and after watching the wave of invaders grow every day, if we don't move to defend the border we will soon be defending our homes all over the interior.
If the militia is to be raised in these times, it will have to raise itself. We must all turn "Vigilante" or our nation will dissapear.

I'm very much against illegal immigration, but our military, including the national guard is stretched way too thin and overworked to handle border duty. W needs to hire the extra 2,000 agents congress authorized.
