ACLU threatens talk-show hosts over cross - (Roger Hedgecock, Rick Roberts threatened)
WORLD NET DAILY.COM ^ | JUNE 3, 2005 | James L. Lambert

The ACLU, representing an atheist, is threatening five San Diego-area personalities with legal action over the proposed wording of a ballot initiative that will determine the fate of a historic cross on city land.

The five behind the Mt. Soledad initiative are KFMB radio talk-show host Rick Roberts; KOGO radio talk-show host Roger Hedgecock; San Diego Padres radio announcer Jerry Coleman, Rep. Randy Cunningham, R-Calif.; and SoledadNational.com Director Phil Thalmeimer.

The attorney for atheist Philip Paulson, James McElroy, has told the men he will file the challenge next week.

McElroy claims that a number of their statements on the ballot, prepared for the July 26 city-wide vote, are "false and misleading."

Some statements at issue include, "as in the case with Mount Soledad, wherever veterans are honored with the symbols of the fallen, an intolerant few will launch frivolous lawsuits that waste our tax dollars … ."

Another statement under challenge is, "in 2004, the president of the United States signed legislation designating the Mount Soledad site as a 'National War Memorial,' necessitating the land transfer."

McElroy also objects to the sentence, "Vote Yes to transfer the land to the federal government and to permanently preserve Mount Soledad -- as it is where it is."

Last month, the San Diego City Council allowed voters to decide the fate of the historic cross, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean in nearby La Jolla. The legal battles date back to 1989.

Roberts said today he and the others "will defend the wording in court."

While there has been "a legal challenge against all five of us, I think we will prevail in court," he said.

Roberts stressed that the issue is important for those who want to preserve the heritage of San Diego, which includes the La Jolla cross. Donations for that cause are being taken by both radio announcers and SoledadNational.com.

Roberts also is a regular guest host for Michael Savage's nationally syndicated radio show. Hedgecock substitutes for Rush Limbaugh occasionally. Coleman will be inducted this summer in the Baseball Hall of Fame as a radio announcer.

I don't doubt it. Well, there are several dens of ACLU iniquity; probably plenty to go around.

The letter by Jefferson was written but it was written some 12 to 18 years after the Bill of Rights was adopted. Reading from several sources and from "Men in Black" by Mark Levin, "Jefferson was not in the United States when the Bill of Rights was adopted and had nothing to do with the 1st Amendment." According to Mr. Levine, "the real source of this strict wall of separation language wasn't Jefferson. It was Hugo Black, a justice appointed by FDR. Prior to being a justice, he was a senator from Alabama. And when he was preparing to run for the Senate in Alabama he joined to Ku Klux Klan, a very powerful force back in the 1920s. So in 1947, he was the justice who wrote an opinion in a case called Everson, involving whether or not public transportation could be used to drop off and pick up Catholic school children. Although the Court ruled that it could, he slipped language into the decision talking about "a strict wall of separation between church and state", that's the slippery slope law today."

"This seems like a meeger way to slow the revenue stream into the ACLU. It would be welcome if a method to short circuit the money stream into the ACLU were devised. I know this monster feeds on the monetary judgements it receives. It also lives off of donations. We need to starve it. Sort of the way we use chemo on cancer cells. Anyone have any ideas?"

The Public Religion of Expression Act 2005 will not completely stop the flow of money to the ACLU, but it will stop a large chunk--of taxpayer money.

PERA will also help prevent the ACLU from bullying public organizations.

But you are right, this act is not the total answer to the ACLU. I believe we are going to have to educate the public about the true goals of the ACLU to actually starve them and shut them down.

I also believe a good strategy would be to infiltrate the ACLU with conservatives, and change it from the inside out--in the same manner that liberals have destroyed traditional institutions like our schools and churches.

it would be refreshing if W would let his guys handle "the dry toast SocSec" issue and use the Bully Pulpit , Hey Karl , c'mon Tiger!?!!??

One of my growing number of disappointments in Bush, et al, is the weak politics and public personna. It is NOT what this country needs right now. The left has gone so far into the anti-American pinko mode, they need to watered down significantly with more defeats of their political and personal attack agenda.

We need a CONSERVATIVE and we need a FIGHTER. Tragically American has niether.

It is absolutely absurd that an atheist can feel threatened in any way by a cross, or the Ten Commandments, or a Christmas tree.

Folks like this are the useful idiots of the ACLU.

Infiltrating the ACLU with conservatives would be like infiltrating Al Qaeda with good ol boys from the Red River Valley.
