Trouble with crediting Pat is that FR is too pc to appreciate the man. PC is always afraid of ideas.
We can only hope that someone with as much persistance as Alamo-Girl opens shop on the WaterGate redux. FReepers have been very prolific and in many cases brilliant in their posts and replies regarding this story and the implications it has had for today.
I'm usually not the biggest fan of Pat Buchanan, but he nails it in this piece.
I keep pinging Backhoe.
Hopefully other Freepers who like to index are all over this like terriers on a new rat.
You and I are worthless when it comes to that task. :)
" I wonder is some enterprising young pup could do a detailed expose' of the facts Woodward overlooked, changed..what files he saw... "
James Rosen of Fox News is the go to guy there, for Watergate .
He has a book scheduled to be published July 06 from Doubleday-"The Strong Man: John Mitchell, Nixon and Watergate." I assume they will push up the publication date.
I found an interesting article- have only had time to scan it briefly- The American Journalism Review, Sept 04 " Watergate Revisted." This link may or may not work- http://www.ajr.org/Article.asp?id=3735
It's very long, but, very detailed and is not kind to the WP and the media of that era .
" Watergate prosecutor SeymourGlanzer believes that an official in the FBI's Washington field office leaked details of the Watergate probe to other reporters besides Woodward and Bernstein
but that only the Post published them early on because of its larger ongoing "struggle with the White House."
" CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite falsely implicated White House aide Patrick Buchanan in money-laundering."
I guarantee there was no apology or retraction.
Who bugged the Goldwater campaign headquarters and plane for LBJ? The CIA or FBI?
(The only reason why LBJ never had to lie about that is that the liberal press never asked him about that.)
A lot of truth to what you say, there.
Still, it's their loss.
The truth *is* the truth, regardless the meaning of "is".
"PC is always afraid of ideas."
Just as ignorance or superstition.
And then only fearful to *certain* ideas, from certain people, some of the time.
Cherry picking ones bias is a tough habit to break, even for the most august of "conservative".
"Cannibalism", after all, is *not* exclusive to the loyal opposition. :o)
Meet the new "boss", Spirited.
...same as the old boss. ;^)
"Hey Pat, get a clue. Felt told the truth. You should try it sometime."
... >doink!< :o)
Pat's a noodle, but sometimes he's dead-on.
