The Great Wall of China was not breached. The Mongol hordes just bribed the gatekeepers. Different time, same principle. One who might research my posts will see that I posted that this was going on at least a year ago. Oh, whatever.

The Great Drug War marches on. No objective in sight really. It just marches on and on and on and on.....

"''If you believe public officials are using public office for personal gain, it's difficult for people to believe government is working on their behalf."
Now who would ever believe a silly thing like that!Government officials on the take?
Say it isn't so!

And you have to wonder how much of this money filters through into the hands of simple newspaper reporters -- perhaps that's the reason for so much media opposition to the Militiamen: the gravy train is rolling to a halt, for them too.

I assume this sort of thing is actually pretty standard....doesn't anyone think through the implications of these airplanes stuffed with cocaine that are caught? Clearly if anyone is sending that much in a plane either it is a 'gimme' for customs are some of them are getting through, which could only be done at that level with help, I assume.
When the smugglers can pay that kind of cash, what does anyone expect? THis isn't a year's pay, its 20 years pay, up front.

"''If you believe public officials are using public office for personal gain, it's difficult for people to believe government is working on their behalf." With a comprehensive plan, I could put a stop to this treasonous behavior within 1-2 years.

Oh, really?
What would keep the people you put in place to stop said treasonous behavior from engaging in same?

This isn't new. I used to hear such stories 50 years ago.
Recently, a special (one of the "informative" channels) look at the corruption during prohibition. Cops made about $2000/year (about 10% more than a full professor, for example), but they could earn $500 for just not showing up for work on a specified day.
I've long held a suspicion (unverified) that ordinary people are just paid to run drugs; a one time affair. Little chance of getting caught due to no previous record and little chance of them talking due to the tax consequences.

Coyotes are big bucks businessmen also. If a coyote can smuggle ten people a night across the border and charges each one $1,000, his annual income is three million six hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year.
Considering that most charge much more than one thousand dollars and that some take dozens across at a time, you're talking about a lot of money available for bribes.
Unfortunately, not many people want to patrol a desert border. An employee of mine who couldn't get into the military joined the border patrol because he said "they get to wear those neat looking vests".
