"I run a business," he said. "Why is it my job to kick people out? It is not my responsibility to figure out who is legal and who is not legal. It's their job to stop them at the border."
Garcia doesn't worry about being fined or arrested by immigration authorities. Even if federal agents did raid his Los Angeles carwash and arrest his undocumented workers, it wouldn't take long to replace them.
"If I lost 20 guys," he said, "within a couple of days I'd have new guys."

About 7 million illegal immigrants worked in the U.S. last year, said the Pew Hispanic Center, a research organization.
"I don't think any average restaurant owner or farmer is shaking in their boots," said Carl Shusterman, a Los Angeles immigration attorney who used to work for the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

"To whatever degree there is enforcement, the only people on the receiving end of it are the illegals, because there are no fines of employers, practically none."

A good place to start would be with the payroll deposits. Even the smalles businesses are required to deposit and report quarterly-- employees and social security numbers. It takes less than 2 minutes to run name and number matches. Duplicate names and numbers or name and number mismatches trigger a visit from ICE. No filings trigger a visit from the IRS. A 0.25% tax on outgoing wire transfers to Latin America (some of which are actually less than wire transfers within the United States!) would finance such a program. Fines for employers who violate the law would finance completion of a much needed wall along our southern border.
Turn the IRS loose on them. Make wages paid to illegal aliens non-deductible for employers. If employers get caught cheating on their taxes, throw them in jail. It's the American solution.
My company has a foundry in KC MO which employs between 900 - 1000 people. About 4 weeks ago the INS said it wanted to come into HR and check employment records. The next day 106 employees never showed up for work. While the company fulfilled its obligation demanding documentation what they didn't know is that such docu were forgeries.
So what is your plan? Shut down the plant for a period of time leaving the remaining 800 or so employees without jobs? Imprison the HR dept. for not being trained in being able to identify forged documents over legit. documents? Given the constant personnel changeover there it is unlikely anyone in HR was even involved in hiring any of the illegals.
We have since sent down one of our guys from our corp. headquarters to help in the hiring of now 200 employees and within a week, of the 40 people he had already hired, 20 had quit because they couldn't take working in the typical environment found in a foundry........
Lots of things could be done...
only problem is, GWB is not willing to do any of them...
If you hire illegal you should go to jail. Period end of statement. There are leagal citizens out there who want work hire them. And as for the working conditions a foundery is cake walk compared to a refinery. I know. And down here they line up around the block for those jobs.
I would like to see the state of CA and other border states like NM,AZ and TX sue the feds for the BILLIONS of dollars that it is costing us to allow illegals to stay here. No reason for us to foot the tab because of the fed's failures and incompetency!

Maybe he'd take a different atttitude if a Minuteman type group started drawing attention to his business. Drawing a lot of attemtion by protesting, as well as by reporting known offenders and pushing an investigation could make it at least a little harder for them to continue their criminal business operations. And where are the lawmakers on this issue? Busy feathering their own nests; that's where. They don't give a d**n about America or the people they are suppose to be serving.
I'll be sure to use that excuse with BATFE when I start selling semi-automatic handguns to illegal aliens. "Hey, it's not my job to know whether who is legal and not legal."

Well as the article points out, employers have no incentive to check the numbers since the feds are not enforcing the immigration laws anyway.

One of my biggest fears with the open border is that you can get a whole lot of terrorist coming through Mexico and we would not know about it until Americans start dying. We need to stop illegal immigration now.
