Ex-cop to get public shaming

TAUNTON — The City Council Tuesday voted unanimously to publicly post former police officer David Smith's picture with those of convicted sex offenders on the lobby bulletin board at City Hall.
"He is a menace to society, and his picture should be posted with the other degenerates," said Councilor Charles Crowley, who made the motion.
Smith, 58, was arrested last July after admitting to molesting a 7-year girl almost nightly for more than a year. He was charged with indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
He resigned in August after 27 years in the department.
Smith was given a sentence of pre-trial probation for four years, which avoids a trial, conviction and registering as sex offender.
Crowley said Tuesday night Smith's picture will also be posted at the Taunton Public Library and other locations where pictures of Level 3 sex offenders are posted in public view.
Level 3 sex offenders are those convicted of crimes and deemed by the state to be a high risk to reoffend.

2002,I was locked up on false charges(not sexual) in West Boylston...while awaiting my hearings anfd trial date,tucked away in A block was both an admitted skinner AND a soon to be ex- state trooper (oxycontin jones plus robberies).I mention this because two bclasses of folks seem to get the deals-those who do not make lazy prosecutors work to convict them,and badged bandit-types. Not all cops,but this whole "two tiered" approachnever fails to P!$$ ME OFF....BTW ,I was found not guilty of all charges,but those SOB's went the extra yard to try and force me into a plea for something I did not do.Yet these folks essentially do it,fess'up and catch a ride.
I think they are more concerned with their closure rates than keeping the public safe or actually meting out justice.
This is extra bad, because it just puts fear in the minds of women who might give up their babies to adoption rather than abortion. This man should be sent to jail the rest of his life.
Yeah, it is corrupt. I own a bail agency, and nobody would believe HOW corrupt : )

I have seen Law Enforcement Officers put up with drunkeness, illegal use of firearms, wife-beaters and it was kept quiet, But let the law finally convict them and the fraternity is shattered. All of a sudden they are on the outside looking in.
