Thanks for the shared thoughts.
There are people who have such excesses but are not corrupted. In money, think of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
Interesting choice of examples. I do think each of them sincerely wants to make the world a better place. I also think each of them is dead wrong on some bedrock issues.
Hope y'all have a safe and enjoyable trip out there.

As you surmised, I chose those two examples not because I agreed with every position they take, but because I am satisfied that they are both honest men. They may both have "more money than God" but they remain honest men.

Billybob,
While Penn & Teller is a good show, if you want to see the best show in Vegas go see Mac King at Harrahs.
Plus its an afternoon show leaving your evening open for other shows.
As a magician myself, if limited to seeing one magic show in Vegas while in town I would go see Mac King.

Crime rules, traffic is unbearable, illegals run almost all the services and huge new casinos, built with the brain dead's money, continue to appear like cancers on the desert. I expect them to run out of water in a decade, then LV will collapse. Sure your not talking about LA?

Las Vegas is impressive. Basically, because it exists at all. It is a monument to modern civilization that millions of people could cohabit such a Godforsaken area of land and not starve or get the plague. Everything these people need to survive has to be imported from elsewhere except for the slots and the dancing girls.
I played a rugby tournament there a few years back and was amazed by the fact that nothing much could grow there w/o thousands of gallons of imported water. And the pitch, every time I got tackled on it, I felt like I was playing on concrete.

Hi Mark
Bell = Bellagio. Though we usually stay at the 'V'enetain, we hang out a lot at the 'Bell'agio and have developed our own shorthand.
Bally's belongs to the Paris folks, I think it's Park Place Entertainment. They are pretty generous with their comps I understand. The rooms at Paris are small (350 sq ft - DH hates small hotel rooms and they don't have FOX news). My neighbor gets offers from them, according to him they only require one hour of play for each day that you stay.
A line of credit might be a good idea, but I usually just play slots and DH doesn't play at all. I do get offers for the V, more recently because of Wynn Las Vegas I think.
I just went to their websites and signed up, so when the emails come I try to plan the two trips we make a year around the good offers. We go because there is no where else we can get so much for so little money.

Las Vegas and Washington DC are the 2 most unAmerican cities in the USA.

How is Las Vegas "unAmerican"?

I guess when I say unAmerican, I mean it's not like any city here in Indiana or any other "normal" city. It's more like a carnival atomsphere. That's not all bad, it's just not what every day folks encounter. Kind of like Hollywood. It's defintely unique to America but it's not the All American City nor does it define Americans.

You chose your wording very poorly then. UnAmerican has a very specific meaning.

I agree. I had second thoughts after posting. I should have stayed with the title All American.

Good article, but I have to take issue with this:
In money, think of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
When I think of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet and money, I think of multi-millions to promote abortion. They think their wealth makes them gods.

I love Las Vegas.
I only place I've ever been where I have felt absolutely comfortable and relaxed, without a care or worry at all.
Could have been the excessive booze, but I love Vegas still.

Actually, I think Las Vegas is a bit tense. For absolute relaxation, I'd take the moment when a cruise ship drops the lines in the water and leaves to dock, with a steel band playing and ubiquitous waiters plying you with strawberry daiquiris.
Now THAT's relaxation.

Not sure about that: I recall U2 did all their videos for 'The Joshua Tree' in LV. Worked just about perfectly for what they were singing and paid LV no particular compliment.
Cheers,
