The Blame Game Irwin N. Graulich

Whose fault is it that I accidently murdered the liquor store owner in a botched robbery attempt? Judaism and Christianity say, "It's my fault and I should most likely receive capital punishment." George W. Bush says, "If he did it, let him be brought to justice." Ted Kennedy says, "It's George Bush's fault for leaving a child behind." Liberals say, "It's the fault of a bad neighborhood, and has nothing to do with a fatherless household." The left says,"Of course they should be punished. Let them have cable tv, weightlifting, basketball, a great library, free room and board, free medical care, etc. for the next 15 years and then they'll be rehabilitated."

Whose fault is it that my marks are not good enough to get into Yale? Liberal Jews say, "They're antisemitic." Conservative Jews say, "So, he'll go to Princeton." Christians say, "He should have studied harder." Republicans say, "Racism in America is pretty much dead, so it's time to end affirmative action." Democrats say, "It's because whites were slave owners." Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson say, "The college admissions committee is racist; never mind that half of its members are minorities." Barbara Boxer believes that, "Blacks are inferior and therefore must be given an advantage," which puts a stigma on all black college credentials. Professor Newt Gingrich says, "There is absolutely no difference between a minority brain and a majority brain, except after they are brainwashed in college."

Whose fault is it that my 15 year old got pregnant? Religious people say, "If they abstain from sex, it won't happen." Republicans say, "Make it somewhat difficult to get an abortion, so teens will take the consequences more seriously." Hillary Clinton says, "We don't give out enough condoms in school." John Kerry says, "There is not enough sex education," (because as we all know, teenagers do not know that sex leads to babies).

Whose fault is it that 12 students and a teacher were shot and killed in Columbine? Jews and Christians say, "It's their values, stupid." Ted Kennedy says, "It's the NRA, stupid." Maxine Waters says, "It's the economy, stupid." Michael Moore says, "It's Bush's fault." Chuck Schumer says, "It's the gun manufacturers." Trial lawyers say, "It's the gun manufacturers." Liberal talk radio says, "It's the gun manufacturers." Conservative talk radio says, "It's no more the gun manufacturers than blaming GM, Ford and Chrysler for every automobile death in America."

Whose fault is it that terrorists blow up and murder innocent men, women and children at a Passover Seder in Israel? The entire Arab/Muslim world and France say, "It's the occupation." Leftist university professors say, "It's the occupation." Their students, afraid to respond to such credentials think, "How could it possibly be the occupation, when before 1967 the Arab/Muslim world had in their posession the entire West Bank, Gaza and all of old Jerusalem including the Temple Mount, Western Wall and Al Aqsa Mosque; yet, that was the time of the greatest threat to Israel by its neighbors." Leftist liberals and brainwashed students say, "It's American hegemony and poverty." Conservatives and college Republicans say, "It's the values stupid." Knowledgeable Jews say, "It is partially antisemitism gone wild, once again."

Whose fault is it that social security and medicare are in trouble? George Bush says, "The system is broken and we need to fix it." John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi say, "Don't touch anything, or old people will be dying in the streets." Teresa Kerry says, "John would have fixed it, had I become First Lady." Economists say, "The system was not designed for present needs. People did not live anywhere near as long." Noam Chomsky, et al say, "It is American hegemony." Al Franken says, "It is Republican hegemony." Harry Reid says, "It is Bush hegemony." American citizens say, "It is the government screwing up, once again."

Whose fault is it that I burned myself with hot coffee at McDonald's? Trial lawyers say, "Of course it's McDonald's fault for serving the coffee so hot and not warning us." A jury of my peers says, "It's McDonald's fault because I am the small guy and the corporation has deep pockets." A decent individual says, "You're a klutz."

Whose fault is it that American soldiers died? In Iraq, it's Bush's fault. In Viet Nam, it was Nixon's fault. In Nicaragua, it was Reagan's fault. It's never Jimmy Carter's fault in the Iranian desert. It's never JFK or LBJ's fault in Viet Nam. It's never Bill Clinton's fault in Serbia. Of course, it's only the fault of a Republican president.

Whose fault is it that my daughter is not married at 42? It's single men's fault who get sex and great take out food so easily today. It's her mother's fault for teaching her to be so independent. It's feminism who proved to her that a women without a man is like a fish without a bicycle. It's college which taught her that career is really the most important thing in life, not raising a family. It's her best friend's fault because she has been divorced twice already. It the fault of the Democratic Party for believing that a woman can be equally fulfilled, whether single or married. It's PC society that has a marriage penalty tax, which announces that there should be no benefits to being married and raising the next generation. It's the PC media that does not stigmatize single mothers anymore. It's too much compassion, and not enough self criticism. It's too much self esteem and not enough self control.

Whose fault is it that the greatest country in world history, America, could possibly fail? Why not go figure it out yourself!

It kind of puts things in perspective. It seems almost everyone wants to blame someone nowadays. I know that for a fact because of my childhood.:)
