Proof That Liberals and Environmental Wackos Don't Know What They're Doing

Well here it is folks, hot off the presses. The "brilliant" men who have cost us so many billions of dollars in unnecessary paper work, half-built, shutdown facilities, and regulations and put us so many years behind in nuclear technology, have now suddenly changed their minds. They have come to believe what some of us non-PhD.s have known for twenty-five years, Nuclear Energy is the best and only viable alternative to the carbon economy. Well DUH! Check this out in the New York Times [full story] of all places:

“Old Foes Soften to New Reactors By FELICITY BARRINGER Published: May 15, 2005 WASHINGTON, May 14 - Several of the nation's most prominent environmentalists have gone public with the message that nuclear power, long taboo among environmental advocates, should be reconsidered as a remedy for global warming.

Their numbers are still small, but they represent growing cracks in what had been a virtually solid wall of opposition to nuclear power among most mainstream environmental groups. In the past few months, articles in publications like Technology Review, published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Wired magazine have openly espoused nuclear power, angering other environmental advocates...”

So, now, all of the engineers who were capable of building nuclear power stations are now retired or nearing retirement, thanks entirely to the Liberals and their moronic anti-nuke campaigns of the '70s and ‘80s. So brilliant are they. So farsighted they were. These are the people who think they are qualified to run the country. Heck, they couldn't even get this one right, and it was one of the most logical and obvious facts in the whole energy paradigm. They wouldn't listen to conservatives, nope too damn smart (arrogant) for that. This is just another example of why liberals should never be trusted with the reins of government. They’re too emotionally driven. They don’t stop to think what the long-term consequences might be.

Three Mile Island happens, and poof Chicken Liberal starts running around yelling “The sky is falling, the sky is falling!” “Stop building, stop building, China Syndrome, China Syndrome!” A few of us knew they were wrong (A big clue for all you Liberals out there, it was a movie. Just because Jame Fonda, Michael Douglas, and Jack Lemmon run around acting like idiots for an hour and a half, doesn't make it true). A few of us saw what was happening and predicted the ultimate consequences. But no, don’t take time to really examine your actions, just run off and start protesting. Just run up and handcuff yourself to the gates and try to shut down the reactors. Yep, if it sounds good, it must be true. And now were supposed to believe them about global warming and how it is being caused by “greenhouse gasses.” We’re supposed to spend tens of billions of dollars in the next couple of decades because of a theory espoused by the same guys who forced us to use carbon based fuels for heating our homes because nuclear energy was “evil” (You know, they still haven't explained to me how an inanimate object like a gun or nuclear reactor can be evil).

The topper in all of this is that we are probably going to have to import nuclear engineers from Europe to design all of these new power plants, and scientists from India and China to make up for all of those that America has failed to produce, thanks in a large part to the Liberal educators and their progressive education techniques that have left America’s school kids sorely lacking in education. Can you say "out-sourcing," Democrats?

Yes, America owes so much to Liberals, and someday I’d like to see them all get what’s coming to them.

Nuclear energy is the one thing the europeans have been right about and American liberals don't want to listen to them.

I'm confused. Earlier this week, there was a post that discussed the shutdown of nuclear energy plants in Germany.

"Under the plan, all 19 German nuclear power plants are to be shut down by 2020.

The "brilliant" men who have cost us so many billions trillions of dollars in unnecessary paper work, half-built, shutdown facilities, and regulations and put us so many years behind in nuclear technology, have now suddenly changed their minds.

...on the price of crude oil alone since 1972; and the legitimization of "cartels".

The Japanese and the French had no problem whatsoever "getting" it...

"They’re too emotionally driven."

The great majority of them simply have no use for facts. I was in a drinking establishment near Berkeley last night and the assortment of leftists surrounding me struck up a discussion of how "stingy" the US is in foreign aid. I just listened in silence until one of them turned to me and asked me what I thought. I told her that the US government was by far the largest contributor to foreign aid in the world and gives more than the governments of Britain, France and Germany combined.

I further pointed out that under Clinton, foreign aid decreased, and under George Bush, allocation for foreign aid has increased to real dollar levels not seen since the days of the Marshall Plan -- even if only non-military aid was considered. As their jaws dropped and their eyes popped, I added that if private sources of American contributions to foreign were factored in, the amount more than doubled.

What was the rebuttal? Their rebuttal was, "You're full of sh*t!"

I responded to this considered opinion by pointing out that in a recent article in Alexander Cockburn's Counter-Punch, leftist Tom Barry fully agreed with the figures I was providing them with.

At that, one guy said, "Why don't you take your opinions where they're wanted?" When I pointed out to him that my opinion was specifically asked for, he looked like his blood pressure was rising to a dangerous level. Never underestimate the power of brain-washing. It overrides all else, including common sense.

The "last resort" would be the energy sources proposed by the leftists I conversed with last night -- wind and solar. They actually believe that these sources can meet a modern society's energy needs.

Forgot the </sarcasm>

My point is: that if we make a strong support for coal, we may force them (liberals) to support Nuclear as a counter position. Which is what many of us really want anyway.

Coal may be the good deal after all - ask yourself, how much did it cost to clean up Three Mile Island? Who paid for that?

I'll admit being pretty much against nukes, if, for no other reason, the cost of waste disposal...the power looks cheap because a favorite Uncle picks up the tab.

That said, it is possible to build and run nuke plants safely, as the (I hate to say) French have so demonstrated.

Agreed, burning any kind of animal pucky for fuel, should definately be a last resort.

Sorry for trying to be punny, I know what you meant.

Only until someone wants to build one - then it's "Let the winds blow free"

Personally, I'm convinced that the wind coming out of liberals, if fully harnessed, can supply the world's energy needs indefinitely.

That is not entirely true, the Navy (KAPL and Bettis) are still building Nuclear reactors, so there are still engineers that can build a reactor. I wonder how it will affect our submarine and aircraft carrier forces if and when so many nuclear reactors go online that more and more nukes get out of the Navy to go work at a nuclear power plant to get paid way more than the Navy will pay them.

Do you know how much it'll cost to remove the radon from the stack gases of coal fired power stations?

While the government may be "paying" for waste disposal, the money they are spending is a fraction of the money they have collected from the utilities since 1982. If they would have spent this money as they agreed, the waste disposal problem would have been solved years ago.
