Border Patrol told to stand down in Arizona
WashTimes ^ | May 13, 2005 | Jerry Seper

U.S. Border Patrol agents have been ordered not to arrest illegal aliens along the section of the Arizona border where protesters patrolled last month because an increase in apprehensions there would prove the effectiveness of Minuteman volunteers, The Washington Times has learned. More than a dozen agents, all of whom asked not to be identified for fear of retribution, said orders relayed by Border Patrol supervisors at the Naco, Ariz., station made it clear that arrests were "not to go up" along the 23-mile section of border that the volunteers monitored to protest illegal immigration. "It was clear to everyone here what was being said and why," said one veteran agent. "The apprehensions were not to increase after the Minuteman volunteers left. It was as simple as that." Another agent said the Naco supervisors "were clear in their intention" to keep new arrests to an "absolute minimum" to offset the effect of the Minuteman vigil, adding that patrols along the border have been severely limited. Border Patrol Chief David V. Aguilar at the agency's Washington headquarters called the accusations "outright wrong," "Border Patrol agents are the front line of defense against terrorism," Chief Aguilar said, adding that the 11,000 agents nationwide are "meeting that challenge, head-on ... as daunting a task as that may sound." The chief said that with the world watching the Arizona border because of the Minuteman Project, agents in Naco "demonstrated flexibility and resilience in carrying out their critical homeland security duties and responsibilities." But Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican, yesterday said "credible sources" within the Border Patrol also had told him of the decision by Naco supervisors to keep new arrests to a minimum, saying he was angry but not surprised.

I've posted before, that a man I used to work with has a son-in-law that is a border patrol agent in San Diego. They are told NOT to arrest illegals.

Several field agents credited the volunteers with cutting the flow of illegal aliens in the targeted Naco area, saying the number of apprehended illegals dropped from an average of 500 a day to less than 15 a day.

Do the math..500 per day = 182500 per year just in that small area...Its a bloomin' flood and MUST BE STOPPED!

Whoever gave those orders needs to be fired immediately! Time to use the whistleblower act!

Perhaps Americans should stay home from work in protest to this invasion.

I think stories like this one are truly useful if, and only if, at least one of them would provide a copy or image of the written orders.
If the orders are not "written", how can "management" substantiate a refusal to follow orders?

Bump to the news that the Minutemen will be on the same part of the border this weekend, for a "May Surprise" weekend of patrols.

Since we are about to receive a new ID card to insure (like that's what it is for)our security, I have some questions.

Can we agree that we, having that sense known as Common Sense, would have closed our northern and southern borders on September 12, 2001?

The President continually states that he is fighting for our security...our freedom.

So, why have the borders not been closed?

Free trade? I don't think so. Trade across the borders may have slowed, but with fine tuning that would have been short lived.

Cheap labor? How cheap would that labor have to be to be worth our national security?

I'm feeling like I did after the bombing of the Murrah Building, when Clinton got his gun restrictions so easily.
There is another agenda, isn't there? What exactly is it?

They are government employees, members of the government federal employee union, thus vote democrat. They are not going to do anything because these people are making them look bad. They will sit on their collective asses and try to pretend nothing is going on down there. With 20 million illegals in this country and most of those coming from down south, someone needs to be fired and a new organization put in place to monitor the borders. But, first, our dear president needs to get off his lazy ass and do something about the border problem instead of granting them amnesty and granting them full rights of citizens. This is one issue that Mr. Bush and I clearly do not see the same. He does not think it a very big problem. I think it is a MAJOR problem.
