Amerika was a TV-miniseries aired in '87 or so. Someone else mentioned it on another thread tonight, which is why it occurred to me. I'd love to see it re-aired today, but the leftists would probably fall on their swords before letting that happen. It would be *hugely* damaging to their cause.

Well, considering the ones most likely watching it would be cheering for the other side, I dunno. If you consider who teevee programming and advertising is geared toward, it will give you an idea of just who's watching. Or at least who presumably goes out and buys the soap.

I did a little drinking with these "Progressives" as I was active in my cop union PAC. A couple of drinks, and their putting on their soft cloth workers caps, and leather vests. They have no hesitation to remake this country in what ever fashion/form/style, using every means at their disposal. Horowitz knows them well.

Where to buy Amerika It is *not* available in North America from any standard channels (e.g. Amazon). As someone else posted, the miniseries is being suppressed.

By and large most people thought the series was rather boring, and the story perhaps could have been better executed. I do know, though, that the libs did *not* want people to see it at the time.

Here in the lala land of Oz and Sandernistas (Bernie Sanders's "Progressives") they have taken the removal of our rights to an extreme.

Now, as of last month, here in Burlington, VT, I can no longer go to the local VFW and visit with my Nam Vet buds, have a cold one and light up.

Yep, that's right. The Politburo (aka City Council) here has decreed that not only restaurants and bars are to be "smoke-free," but also private clubs such as VFW's, American Legions, etc.

Now, when our National Guard (brothers and sisters) come home from Afghanistan and Iraq, if they want to stop in our VFW and visit, they will be told that (as Sen. Snake Kerry is so fond of saying) "putting it all on the line," means squat as far as maintaining [all of] our freedoms.

Worst yet, the State Legislature is about to pass similar legislation making this effective throughout the state and our RINO gov. (Douglas) has agreed to sign this bill.

I thought the story was compelling, but poorly executed. It was about how people were coping with the country ten years after the invasion, so there wasn't much action at all. The Soviets were finalizing the dismantling of our government, but the story mainly followed a set of characters leading very different lives. One wound up in a concentration camp, one was a Party member who had access to banned material and got to see how conformity was being forced upon everyone, one was trying to put together a fledgling rebellion, etc. The story was 90% vignette character development, and a lot of people found it boring.

I just went over the IMDb comments and one thing someone pointed out was that the invasion took place in the first place through political corruption. Basically the Soviets backed certain political candidates in the US and eventually gained enough of a critical mass that their guys over here effectively signed the country over to them (since the story takes place ten years later, it's vague on it but apparently there are outtakes that explain more). In light of the mess with Clinton and ChiCom funding I can certainly see why (ahem) certain people on the left might not want people reminded of that tactic and what a "successful outcome" can entail.

The series was also very clear that the UN was totally complicit in the whole thing and essentially put their stamp of approval on it to make it seem legitimate. Would never happen today with us running the show, but a good cautionary tale if you can get past the boredom (and the fact that it's *really* depressing).

I have no desire to buy a copy from the sites online as I've already seen it, and taking a second look at them makes me suspicious of their legality.

I believe that an *old* independent video rental store in my area has a copy (three VHS tapes, IIRC). I wasn't aware that it had become the miniseries equivalent of "Song of the South" - though I'm not really surprised about that. What I find most interesting of all is that there's enough demand to justify "unauthorized" copies, complete with DVD cover art.

That's a lot of work, unless, as in the case of "Song of the South", it was released elsewhere (anywhere but here). Hmmm.
