Why is it that you appear to be returning to the scene of the crime? This thread isn't about you. But you want to make it so.

That treatment in that thread was formative to my opinion of Freep but I have no desire for this thread to be about me - I didnt want that one to be about me either.

I do however, have experience with trying to keep harrassers off commercial forums.

1. If the members can let the posts be quietly deleted that can work - my point was I don't believe it will work here.

2. Any form of IP banning will eventually fail because of the number of free proxy servers available on the net. You can restrict access thorugh proxies but then many people will not be able to post from work.

3. Prosecution, unless the person does something that can be labled as a threat, will be very difficult if not impossible. One case in Boston eventually resulted in an injuction at which point the perp got 10 of his friends involved.

4. The web sites I have been involved with eventually concluded they had two choices - put up with a certain amount of disruption or establish a waiting period for new posters. Both solutions are less than fully satisfactory.

5. Theo nly really satisfactory solutions hgave come in cases where the membership could act cohesively.
