I don't know if IP tracking blocking is the easy way to do this. If a person has a legit reason to be on FR he would be posting from probably no more than three traceable, static IP addresses. These could be individually confirmed as not being proxies at the time the person signs up or requests another IP to post from. This would give the admins time to check approve or deny the IP/poster.Cool, this would help deny the 'random IP generator' that Final Authority described.

On a dial-up connection, everytime one dials up a new IP is generated. So when I dial-up, say, and after my cookies are deleted, I click on FR and I can see FR, I click on "log in" and give my SN and PW. It (IP) would be different each time. So, is the IP checked or verified with the previous click, during each new click on FR after logging in? Or is it just lodgged?

I mean it's not like it would be life threatening to wait a bit for you, your IP, and your e-mail address to be checked out by the admins before you can become a poster here at FR. I lurked for years before I finally signed up. And if I'm reading FR from somewhere I've never posted from it's not like I will die if I couldn't reply.
I don't know if user accounts can be limited to a list of specific IP addresses or not. Of course, if a user is legit, his IPs wouldn't have to be limited at all.

Cool, this would help deny the 'random IP generator' that Final Authority described. There are people on dialup who get dynamically assigned IP, and who travel and get somewhat random IP.

The only problem with this is that person using AOL generates multiple IP addresses each visit
I have seen some scripts written for sites that will trace back a IP address through a proxy server to the originating IP. Of course they have the drawback of slowing down the site, but in this case may be worthwhile checking into.
