“People die because of this kind of garbage.”

Yes, and men lose the respect of their families because they can’t get a decent job.

Agreed.  When I was applying as a firefighter to the City of Seattle, a Japanese friend of mine who had already gotten in (with lower test scores, and he's a puny guy...I'm a big, husky stoat and I was firefighter of the year in my volunteer department...I was no slouch) and he told me "don't even bother applying....they're not hiring white boys"

Nowadays, it doesn't happen "officially" anymore but there is still a LOT of anti-white and anti-male bias in hiring, promotion and everywhere else.  It's sick and it is a profound disservice to the taxpayer, who rightfully expects The Best firefighter or police officer to come to their aid in a time of need.

And, as you say, it wreaks havoc in families when 'unofficial' and 'unspoken' but very real barriers to hiring and advancement crush a hardworking family's dreams when all they want to do is to play by the rules and work hard and have reasonable expectations based upon their hard work.  It's awfully hard to tell the wife "well dear, I didn't make the Sergeant's exam again this time.  I was the top score again but they hired a black lesbian who was thirty points down the scoring list from me".

Stuff like that destroys people's lives and it's wrong, wrong, wrong.

"sigh"

(sorry about my venting)

Correction: I should have said "It doesn't happen "officially" in Washington State anymore (an anti-affirmative-action initiative was passed just a few years ago....but it wasn't passed in time to help me out when I was a viable fire service candidate) I can't speak to the hiring laws in other states.  It may well still be going on "officially" elsewhere.
