Mass congressman Stephen Lynch (http://www.house.gov/lynch/) has proposed a complete ban on the drug Oxycontin.
On the Blute and Scotto show yesterday he clearly implied that anyone who took the pill became instantly addicted.
So because a few idiots are addicted to it, people who desperately need it should be denied their relief.
He'd better ban aerosol spray paint as well, many people are addicted to "huffing" the fumes.
And anyone over 40 would remember the fears about model cement in the 70's
Mr. Lynch is sounding a little like Carrie Nation, leader of the temperance movement.

And since Whitey Bulger made a such a fool of the Boston FBI office,
it should be dissolved and replaced with the Winter Hill Gang.

I dont agree with the ban on Heroin and other narcitic drugs.
Now dont get me wrong I dont want these drugs legalised I want them available as prescription drugs.
There are many prescription drugs out now that are just as dangerous as heroin , expensive drugs that dont work as well. Why shouldnt a Doctor be able to write a prescription for heroin to be used for terminally ill patients, Its cheap and it works. Its stupid to use more expensive drugs that dont work as well. I have always been an advocate for heroin use for executing murderers, Certainly heroin deaths are not cruel and unusual as are some of the lethal injections they now use.

Mr. Lynch has obviously never had a loved family member suffering and dying of cancer or some other horribly painful disease.
But because politicians have gotten traction declaring to get "Tough on Druuuuugggs" most prescribers would rather you suffer than to run the risk of thier prosecution.
i've taken this drug for pain. it's annoying. i don't see the attraction.
There is a mentality in this country, that does not recognize the seriousness of pain, or its consequences.
And they would ban all sorts of means to relieve physical pain. If it could be done, aspirin would be banned, and in a small way, in many places it is restricted, as in not being available anywhere except a pharmacy (though Tylenol is freely available). ANYTHING that relieves painful physical conditions, if it is Motrin, Aleve, or any of a number of other NSAIDs, is regarded as sinful, because any one of them "might" have side effects.
Well, duh. In some cases the "side effects" are the direct result of the relief of the pain, and other underlying symptoms become apparent. The side effects were there all the time, masked by the pain.
Narcotic-based pain relievers are even MORE sinful, because of a widespread superstition that ALL narcotics or opiates are instantly addictive to ALL individuals. It is true, that some physiologies may become physically dependent on the repeated administration of a particular narcotic drug. And besides, pain is just "all in your head". If you believe that, try sticking your hand in a wood chipper.
Also, there is the belief that "pain is supposed to make you a better person". Has anyone who believes THAT ever BEEN around a person in constant pain? The person in pain is not necessarily the better for it.
Vicodin has made my spouse much more bearable to be around. Spouse was taking Vioxx, which was more effective, but that got pulled off the market, rather abruptly.
Options for reducing pain are introduced, show great promise, and even make life much better for many people, only to have them removed because a few people had side effects that would never have been noticed under the pain.
One wishes that all the "puritans" who try to remove pain products from availability should have to suffer, if only for 24 hours, what so many pain patients go through day after day.

No. Dope. It can cause some hepatic necrosis when used in doses higher than recommended orin folks with pre-existing liver disease.
But not hepatitis - that is mostly caused by an infectious agent.
And tell me oh wise one - what would folks take instead of acetominophen for mild to mod pain?
So many totalitarians want to run other peoples lives. Why don't you stick to making decisions for yorself and allow all the rest to do so as well.
